What Three Words Describe Your Brand?

What do you want your work legacy to be? Here's a simple exercise to try: Think about the three words you would like to be known by or for. When your fellow colleagues think of you, what three characteristics would you hope they use to describe you? Imagine you're retiring because you won the lottery (I know, most of you would keep working) - what three words would you hope to hear most frequently from your fellow colleagues in your "bon voyage" tribute speeches? You can also do this as a team exercise, where everyone shares their three desired "personal brand words" with each other.

Of course, that's the easier part. Now, the challenge for all of us, is to ask ourselves what we need to do to make sure we live those three words consistently out loud through our actions!

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

If you want to change the energy level in your next meeting or offsite retreat try this simple technique. When you ask participants survey questions, instead of just having people put up their hands, have everyone stand up and position themselves in a line along a spectrum, or stand in a section of the room designated for different responses. For example, ask everyone how they would rate your workplace culture on a scale of 0-10 or 0-100, then have people form a line that positions themselves along that scale, so you see a visual representation in the form of a human bar graph. Or suppose you have six priorities you're trying to choose from? In that case, have everyone stand in a different spot that represents each one of the six priorities. It's a fun way to engage and involve people, generate interesting conversations, and get a quick visual representation of how everyone feels about a particular topic.
