Cordelia

She may be known as the goddess of summer flowers, the Queen of May and a graceful fairy spirit, but Cordelia is no sissy - she teaches you to stand your ground in order for good things to come your way.

MANTRA

  • Self respect

GEMSTONES

  • geodes, garnet, bloodstone

ESSENTIAL OILS

  • Goddess-ence Kali* blend for the base chakra, and for strengthening your sense of purpose

AFFIRMATIONS

  • My rights are important
  • I know what is best for me
  • It is easy to stand up for myself
  • I stand firm for what I believe in
  • I am gracious in my stubborness ;-)
  • Others respect my decision for my own path
Her Story

Welsh goddess of summer flowers, Cordelia is honoured as the Queen of May and of the fairies. She was the target of ardent attention from suitors competing to win her love.

Her Modern Energy

Cordelia defied her sea-god father's wishes and married the man of her choice. In doing so, she sent a very clear message that despite her flowery and joyful energies, it is good to stand firm so good things can come your way.

You don't need to go so far as to marry someone to emulate Cordelia, but you can become the heroine of your own story and stand your ground in the face of fear, threats or adversity.

Reconnect With Your Inner Cordelia

Go outside and burrow your feet in the ground. Or, if it is too cold where you are, place red flowers on your desk or home to keep her floral energy at a conscious level.

Pssst! Spring 1st moon is a good time to sow seeds for new projects or relationships.

What Would Cordelia Do?

... If she were in your situation, she would stand firm and make choices for her own happiness. While remaining gracious during the process, she wouldn't compromise her well-being for the sake of 'keeping the peace'.

What are you missing out on?
A true story about perception

The Washington Post organised a violinist to play incognito in the metro station as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities.

The questions raised: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognise talent in an unexpected context?

Sadly, it seems the answer is no we do not. This experiment proved that in every moment we have great opportunities to witness once-in-a-lifetime beauty. Go to my blog to share something extraordinary you've seen in an ordinary moment

NLP exercise: stand up for yourself
... using the New Behaviour Generator

If you're already familiar with Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), this exercise is easy to use by yourself without a coach or guide. If this is your first experience, however, you will need some help understanding some of the jargon.

You can either enrol in the free NLP scholarships being offered in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth in October, or find an NLP practitioner to coach you through this exercise.

This exercise is based on the "New Behaviour Generator" model, and will take you from being unhappy with how you handle a situation, to being very able to manage it appropriately and easily.

You might be unhappy with the way you have to nag your boyfriend, for example. By modelling your new behaviour on someone who doesn't nag her boyfriend, you will add new resources to your tool belt so that next time, you won't have to nag either.

Or if you always act passively when your father tells you who you are to marry, you could use Cordelia as your role model and see yourself standing up for your own needs as your new behaviour.

Read through the steps a couple of times first so you can "flow" through it for the actual exercise. Alternatively re-write these steps as a script and record it - playing it back to yourself will let you focus on the doing rather than the instructing.

  1. Recall a situation where you felt unresourceful. In 1st position, be in the situation. See, hear, and feel what's happening around you. If other people are in your scope, make a note of how they are responding. This is your "context" that we will refer to later.

  2. With a deep breath, physically step back from the situation and step into 3rd position. Shift your posture to express a resource state. Now, observe the situation as if you were watching a movie of yourself.

  3. Evaluate the situation and select a model who exhibits effective behaviours in this context. Do this by thinking of someone else who can handle your "context" really well. See that person doing different behaviours than you have been doing in this context. Then, choose one of those behaviours appropriate for you to learn in order to override the unresourceful state in this context.

  4. See and hear yourself doing those new, effective behaviours in this context.

  5. Ecology Check - is this new state for the greatest good of all?

  6. Associate: Step back into the situation with the new resources available to you. Experience it from the inside, hearing, seeing, and feeling yourself behave with all of these resources available.

  7. Evaluate your new response. If you are not happy, begin again from step 3. This time, choose a different resource and/or model or mentor that has the resources you need.

  8. Future-pace: Rehearse for the future, by imagining a similar situation in which you want to have all your resources available.

All the bolded words in this article are NLP-specific jargon. This jargon is easy to understand and use with a bit of training. Enrol for your NLP scholarship here (and tell them Anita-the-goddess sent you so they look after you!)

Q: How do you fall in self-love?

A: Have a self-love affair!

Cordelia didn't get married for the sake of it. She knew what was important before taking that step... before you think about a serious relationship and marriage, here is a suggestion for how to do what Cordelia did... fall in self-love in order to find true love.
