Tip of the Week- How to Increase Your Contacts and Find Old Friends-
Many people reach out and make holiday greetings at this time of year.
This year you could try something completely different:
--> Connect with old friends or business acquaintances with social media/networking.
Close your eyes and think of a place or situation from your past and see if someone (or some group of someones) comes to to mind.
There, you've thought of a past group say from college or high school or a community group.
Now think of a particular person in that group (and don't worry, you'll think of plenty!).
Write the person's name down and continue writing people's names from that group.
You can simply list them on a piece of paper, or if it's easier for your brainstorming, use a mind mapping technique or tool.
- Rick and I use Mindmeister for mind mapping.
Now comes the fun part, once you have one or more names:
Go to Whozat, "the people search engine", and put in their first and last names.
What's cool about Whozat is that you can also put in keywords about the person, e.g., their title or occupation or industry or other bits of information about them you think they might include in a social networking profile.
- Then you get a row of links to social networks they might be a member of, as well as
- Google-type results below, but focused on the person you're looking for.
- Once you do your initial search, then you can narrow it by Place, Gender, Age, Concepts, and Related Queries.
You can also put a business name into the "Keywords" search box, either to refine a search, or just find company info/sites.
I still like Pipl.com, "the most comprehensive people search on the web", which not only does searches by the person's name, but also has searches by Email address, username, or phone number.
And Pipl has a new beta Business search engine as well.
Oh, and by the way, don't run your spouse or children in these people search engines: you don't want to know!
But definitely search yourself so you can see what info and sites are readily available on the web re: your reputation and consider doing a Google Alert on your name so you can routinely monitor your reputation on the web.
We hope you find many old friends and acquaintances, who become new friends, who may know people who need your business or services.
That said, "Happy Holidays" from Rick and Karl at IncreaseOnlineProfits.com. We hope your business continues to thrive and grow!

Watch it again to affirm your own decision to improve your website and online marketing efforts.
In the near future we'll be posting articles on the IOP site which show how you can make (or have made) a movie like this for your site too.
