Tip of the Week
While this week's tip is important for everyone, it's particularly directed towards men, because sometimes, we forget.
I came across this website, she-conomy.com, through Twitter. It bills itself as "A Guy's Guide to Marketing to Women." Here are some facts I found on their site:
Women account for 85% of all consumer purchases including everything from autos to health care:
- 91% of new homes
- 66% PCs
- 92% vacations
- 80% health care
- 65% new cars
- 89% bank accounts
- 93% food
- 93% over-the-counter pharmaceuticals
Women represent the majority of the online market
- 22% shop online at least once a day
- 92% pass along information about deals to others
- 171: average number of contacts in their email or mobile lists
- 76% want to be part of a special or select panel
- 58% would toss a TV if they had to get rid of one digital device (only 11% would ditch their laptops)
- 51% are moms

Regarding social media, consider this information that was compiled from the 2009 Marketing To Women Conference-Chicago:
- Last year, 15 million women were blogging with 20 million reading and commenting
- Women ages 55 and older are the fastest growing group on Facebook
- Advice and online community is key. It encourages users to share experiences and bridge relationships with partners
- There is a difference between blogs and social networks. Women go to blogs to attain information and share opinions. They go to social networks for fun and to stay up to date with family and friends
- Marketers must identify social media strategy rather than chasing tactics like blogs or Facebook
- Women will share information online that they won't share with husbands or best friends
- Online, companies should respond to women, never preach
This certainly was a wake-up call for me and I hope it was for you as well. Post some thoughts on the Discussion Forum or send an email to me at rick@increaseonlineprofits.com
