[LAC Inside Scoop] Waking up in Vegas + a Virtual Gift Basket Sent Monday, January 9, 2012

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year! As the subject suggests, I did in fact wake up in Las Vegas this morning (Caesar's Palace to be exact), and even attended a very quirky yoga class. Yoga in Vegas, who knew?! I'm here tagging along with a friend attending Affiliate Summit West, taking a much-need vacation after working around the clock for the last two weeks straight.

I'd like to extend a very warm welcome to all of the new readers who have joined since my last mailing in November, many of whom came from Brazen Careerist's 20 Young Professionals to Watch in 2012  and ProBlogger's 20 Bloggers to Watch in 2012. Tthank you!! Let's hope I can meet those high expectations in 2012, even with a primary focus on Light and Lifestyle this year.

If you're not in the mood for a long update:

Someone unsubscribed last time saying these newsletters are too long -- I can't really blame her!!

This one is a BIGGIE because there's a lot happening, and because I'm really only sending these every 1.5 months. But alas, I promised when I started this newsletter to give you the full behind-the-scenes look at what I'm up to, so I figure you'll skip whatever bores you or doesn't apply.

If you don't read any further, make sure you save the date for my free Make Sh*t Happen Crash Course webinar on Wednesday at 1:30pm ET. The full course re-opens for enrollment that same day (Wednesday) at 3pm ET. Weeee! It sold out in less than 24 hours last time, so make sure you get a jump on it if you know you're interested. Cheers to big goal swagger in 2012!

There's been a lot going on at JBE Headquarters this month:
While most people take time off over the holidays for R&R, I love working when the Internet gets quiet. I tend to spend my time burrowed in a creative cave, furiously and excitedly getting myself set-up for the year ahead.

It's my version of busy season: in 2008 I wrote the first draft of my book, in 2010 I finalized my book proposal, last year I cooked up the Make Sh*t Happen concept, and this year I worked on a bunch of exciting projects that you'll see in the JBE updates below.

But alas! I do not want this newsletter to be all about me.
As a belated Christmakwanzmahanukkah gift, I have collected some goodies for you to help kick-off the new year in their very own section -- a virtual gift basket, if you will.

And keep reading for a super-secret sneak preview of what I'm launching with Mint on Wednesday!

Big huge hugs,

Jenny

JBE* BUSINESS UPDATES

-------------------------------

*Jenny Blake Enterprises for those new the list :)

  • Super secret sneak preview of the Mint project - As members of Inside Scoop, I love being able to share things with you before sending them out to the world. You all did a wonderful job keeping hush hush about my news to quit Google. In similar fashion, please do not share this until we launch on Wednesday, partly because I want to drive traffic to the Mint post, not mine.

So what's the news? We're releasing a "Roadmap to Life After College" kick-ass infographic! It's awesome -- it is a full color, professionally designed Choose Your Own Adventure map based on the tips and exercises in my book.
Click here to see the super secret sneak preview. If you look closely, you'll notice that my dog Patches (may she rest in peace) is in the picture frame at the top :)

I'm working on developing a version that you can purchase as a poster too -- that's a win/win - helpful and fun for recent grads, and since I'm planning on sending them to college counselors across America, it will be a good promo for
    the book
  • Design Your Life course -- I very quietly linked to a brand new course offering in my first blog post of the year, a six-week course that will help people bring the exercises in my book to life, and to help people "stop spinning and start LIVING" when they find themselves at a fork in the road.

This was an exercise in rapid development -- my fabulous right-hand woman Emily Smith and I set a goal to have something ready by the time the Mint info graphic launched, which gave us about three weeks to plan and execute the whole thing (a big challenge given that I tend to be a work-tirelessly-for-months-perfectionist about these things).

I'm absolutely thrilled with what we've created, and I know this will be a great program for people in the midst of a major transition, or those looking to move forward with intention and purpose. Business-wise, I'm hoping (if it catches on) that it will be a nice source of passive income moving forward.

The course is $97, and the best part is that if you enroll you get a friend in free! You're more likely to stay committed to the course by working in pairs and will benefit greatly from the added accountability.
Learn more and see if it's for you!
  • Make Sh*t Happen Re-Launch - As I mentioned above, the 8-week Make Sh*t Happen course re-launches next week on Wednesday at 3pm ET!!! Just like last time, there will be 36 spots available, and the first 10 people to enroll will get a 1:1 coaching session with me.

It's incredibly exciting and rewarding to facilitate a process that helps people move past their fears to bring big goals to life, and a great pleasure to watch a supportive community form around shifting intimidating dreams from improbable to inevitable. I'd love to have you be a part of it if it's sounds like just what you need :)
  • Make Sh*t Happen Live Event (first ever in-person JBE event!!) -- The inaugural group had such a good time that they asked if we could do a live event, which always seemed like a JBE pipe dream. But alas, I just finalized the venue and am super excited to be hosting a "Weekend of Creative Genius" for Make Sh*t Happen alumni in April (the invite is open for this upcoming group too)! The event will be in NYC for $175 -- enough to cover the cost of the room, but WAY cheaper than a 1.5 day conference would normally be. If this goes well, an annual or semi-annual event might just become a regular thing!

GOAL-SETTING GOODIES

-------------------------------

  • Scott Dinsmore of Live Your Legend published a very helpful 2012 Goal Setting and Action Workbook. I particularly like the "Get Leverage: Find a compelling an emotional reason why" exercise.
  • Money-Related Mind Mapping -- Kimberly Palmer, Senior Editor for US News & World Report's Money & Business, graciously agreed to share one of her money mind-mapping exercises with us, the Visual Budget Map (part of her  2012 Money Planner, a right-brain approach to setting money goals). Check-out lots more fun financial tools in her Etsy store

  • Free Make Sh*t Happen "Crash Course" webinar if you're still hurting from holiday spending and aren't ready to sign-up for the full course, of if you are considering enrolling and would like to learn more about how it's set-up. I'll cover my 8-step strategy for tackling any massive goal. Click here to register!

QUOTES

-------------------------------

"The irony of commitment is that it's deeply liberating -- in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life."

-Anne Morriss

"All growth is a leap in the dark, a spontaneous, unpremeditated act without benefit of experience."
-Henry Miller

"All that happens to us, including our humiliations, our misfortunes, our embarrassments, all is given to us as raw material, as clay, so that we may shape our art."

-Jorge Luis Borges

"In this age, which believes that there is a short cut to everything, the greatest lesson to be learned is that the most difficult way is, in the long run, the easiest."

-Henry Miller, The Books in My Life
