Write a Letter
Hello !
The book, Refuge: An Unnatural History of Family and Place by
Terry Tempest Williams is like a journal in that it shares a story and
ads personal insight. It can be considered a story about her mother's
battle with cancer. In the book, her mother writes a heartfelt letter,
sending sympathy and empathy to a friend that had just had a brain
tumor operation. Terry then writes about the power of letters:
The […]

Do What is Right
Hello !
The other day, I was faced with a difficult
decision. It seemed that any action I took would end up being
problematic. The choice to just not do anything and hope the situation
would simply go away was very tempting. As I struggled with the best
path to take, the words of a song came to mind:
Do what is right, let the consequence follow.
As
we are faced with decisions in our lives, we should always try to […]

How Are You?
Hello !
How are you?
Have you ever been asked this question? Have you
ever asked it? Have you ever paid attention to the responses to this
question, either from you or from others you have asked? For the most
part it is answered with a simple Fine. How are you? The question has
become more of a ceremonial greeting in that by asking the question, we
don't really expect a real answer, nor, most often, do we even care for […]

Halloween Kindness
Hello !
Today I want to share something that happened a few years ago on
Halloween. I was home on duty at the door. The little goblin, princess,
vampire, and ghost traffic was just becoming steady. You know, the time
that the door barely closes before the bell rings again followed by an
anxious trick or treat! said more like a demand than a simple
question. The grocery bags and pillow cases were about half
full of […]

Competitors or Colleagues
Hello !
Corrie Ten Boom's The Hiding Place shares the wonderful personality
of her Father, one of Haarlem's watchmakers. Corrie says this of him:
Father
was as innocent of business know-how as his father had been before him.
He would work for days on a difficult repair problem and then forget to
send a bill. The more rare and expensive a watch, the less he was able
to think of it in terms of money. 'A man should […]

I'm So Happy for You!
Hello !
Way to go!
You did it!
You deserved it!
You are awesome!
How hard is it to genuinely be happy for the success of others? (The key word here is genuinely.)
I have seen many instances, and heard of many more, in which because someone excelled at something, they were shunned, talked negatively about, and were outright treated rudely. Have you ever found yourself on either end of that situation?
I remember […]

The Pump
Hello !
There is a story about a man who got stranded in a ghost town in some desert and came upon an old pump. He was close to death when he found the pump but no matter how hard or how fast he moved the handle no water came out. He was just about to give up when he noticed an old can with a paper carefully rolled up inscribed was a hand written note. Here is what the note said:
The pump is ok.
The leather gets dry, and she's […]

The Highway
Hello !
Here is a fable that we think is worth a read. Even if you have read it before it brings out a very important precept for those who want to live the Golden Rule.
Once a king had a great highway built for the members of his kingdom. After it was completed but before it was opened to the public, the king decided to have a contest. He invited as many as desired to participate. Their challenge was to see who could travel the […]

The Sin of Omission
Hello !
Here is a poem that when you read it think about living The Golden Rule it might give you a different perspective. Think about what you have done today or in days past, you just might change what you are going to do with the rest of today and with your tomorrows.
The Sin of Omission by Margaret E. Sangster
It isn't the thing you do, dear
It's the thing you leave undone
That gives you a bit of a heartache […]

Golden Rule in Politics
Hello !
I remembered a song that Senator Orrin Hatch wrote that was titled Everyday Heroes. I looked it up on the internet yesterday and could only find the lyrics for a few lines but this is what I found.
Some people have helping hands that go a second mile.
They're willing to love and lift a brother for a while.
Everyday Heroes live in every neighborhood.
Everyday Heroes, helping in the way a neighbor should. […]
