Service Day

Saturday, August 1st, we will be painting a neighborhood house with "Paint Your Heart Out Lake Worth." Join us as we share God's love in a practical way by working together to make our community better! Contact Pastor Jason if you're interested in participating.

The Seven

This week we continued our series on The Seven Mortal Sins and The Seven Virtues by talking about greed, another twisting of the desire God plants in each of us. You can watch the sermon here.  Next Sunday we'll explore the subject of gluttony and our appetites as we come to Jesus' table to celebrate communion.

Blessing of the Backpacks

Join us on Sunday, August 16th as we bless the backpacks of children returning to school tomorrow. We will lift our children up in prayer and bless them during our worship service. After worship, we will have a time of food and fellowship to which all are invited.

Practicing Self-Care
When stress strikes, self-care often takes a backseat. “The ability to care for oneself is predicated on the ability to consistently go inward and listen to what is there with open, compassionate ears,” said Amy Pershing, LMSW, ACSW, a clinical director at The Center for Eating Disorders in Ann Arbor, Mich.

However, during stressful periods in our lives, we tend to focus outward. We diminish or disregard our inner life, ignoring our needs and limits, she said.

And yet, it’s during hectic or difficult times when we need to care for ourselves the most.

You can read some helpful words about self-care during stressful times in this article over at Spirituality and Health.

Let Us Know What You Liked!
Hopefully you have noticed that we have been incorporating different articles in our newsletter besides just the same church info and announcements. Are there specific things you would like to see? Help for your daily life? News from our church in other parts of the world? Let us know!

Facebook
If you are on Facebook, you can keep up with what is happening "between Sundays" on our Facebook page. First, go to our page and "Like" us. However, just liking us does not mean that you will see everything we post. Each of our Facebook posts only goes to about 2% of the people who like our page. To make sure you see everything, after you like us, go to the pull-down menu on the "Like" button and click "Get Notifications." This way everything that we post will show up on your own Facebook wall.

Pastor's Blog
Yeah, there are a LOT of good reasons not to become involved in a faith community, not the least of which is that churches have really dropped the ball over the past (at least) few decades. At best, we have lost touch and, at worst, have stubbornly and tragically misrepresented the voice of God. Sometimes it is easy to forget why we do, or would want to, become involved. I ran across this list by Rev. Anne Russ, a Presbyterian pastor. It reminded me of what a church is at its best...

Online Giving

Have you explored the opportunity of electronic giving? You can choose to have a set amount taken from your bank account on a regular basis or you can make a one (or more) time gift by checking account or credit card on our website. Your regular electronic giving means that your gift is available for ministry even when you are away (or forgot your checkbook!). Thank you for your continued support of the ministry of First Congregational Church!
