I don't know about you but I'm tired of hearing the politicians say they are going to bring us change when we know that a) it will probably cost us something, b) it will not come soon enough, and c) it may not be what we want at all.
So with all that is going wrong, if there is going to be change, you and I are going to have to make our own. There are times when we just have to take control and assume the responsibility for our own future. We may not be able to do anything about the stock market, but we can do other things to help ourselves.
We are all feeling a little uneasy - of that I'm sure. Whether your finances are suffering, your job is threatened or you are watching your retirement funds shrink, there is reason to wonder what the future will hold, but creating useless worry and needless stress will not help.
"Worry is paying interest ahead that is not due until next tomorrow." Don't do that.
Instead, do an honest appraisal of your situation and then make a plan.
First of all, be grateful for what you have. Spend a couple of minutes each day listing the good things and people in your life. See the glass half full - if you are reading this, you are not destitute.
Secondly, keep your financial house in order. Pay off credit card debt, cut back on your expenses and discuss any problems you are having with your family and advisors.
Thirdly, play along with me and say, "What the heck, if it's all going to change, I might as well grab my own brass ring." You know how the stock market gurus always say buy when it's down and sell when it's up? And how that doesn't make sense in times like these when we don't have extra money? But it the right approach. (At least, don't sell now!)
Well, if you have a dream you've been wanting to work on quit putting it off until times get better, the kids grow up, etc. Now is as good a time as any to invest in your future.
Whether you are retired, have been laid off or see that handwriting on the wall, it never
hurts to create another stream of income. Make your own cushions to fall back on.
Start small, get creative and carve out just 30 minutes a day to work at it. I'll suggest some options for employees and then some ideas for entrepreneurs in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned......Email me about your own unique challenges and I'll try to address them.
