Welcome to the October issue of WORKIN' MY WAY newsletter from Jane
Kirsch and Life and Work By Design.
CHANGE - LIKE IT OR NOT
I don't know about you but I'm tired of hearing the politiians say
they are going to bring us change when we know that a) it will
probably cost us something, b) it will not come soon enough, and
c) it may not be what we want at all.
So with all that is going wrong, if there is going to be change,
you and I are going to have to make our own. There are times when
we just have to take control and assume the responsibility for our
own future. We may not be able to do anything about the stock market,
but we can do other things to help ourselves.
We are all feeling a little uneasy - of that I'm sure. Whether
your finances are suffering, your job is threatened or you are
watching your retirement funds shrink, there is reason to wonder
what the future will hold, but creating useless worry and needless
stress will not help.
"Worry is paying interest ahead that is not due until tomorrow."
Don't do that.
First of all, be grateful for what you have. Spend a couple of
minutes each day listing the good things and people in your life.
See the glas half full - if you are reading this, you are not
destitute.
Secondly, keep your financial house in order. Pay off credit card
debt, cut back on your expenses and discuss any problems you have
with your family and advisors.
Thirdly, play along with me and say, "What the heck,if it's all
going to change, I might as well grab my own brass ring." You know
how the stock market gurus say to buy when it's down and sell when
it's up? And how that doesn't make a lot of sense when you don't
have any extra money? It is the right advice though. (At least don't
sell.)
Well, if you have a dream you've been wanting to work on, quit
putting it off until times get better, the kids grow up, etc. Now
is as good a time as any to invest in your future.
Whether you are retired, have been laid off or see that handwriting
on the wall, it never hurts to create another stream of income.
Make your own cushions to fall back on.
Start small, get creative and spend just 30 minutes a day working
at it. I'll suggest some options for employees and some ideas for
entrepreneurs in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned.... and send me an e-mail at jane@lifeandworkbydesign.com
to tell me about your specific challenges - I'll try to address
them.
FOR THE OVER 50 CROWD
My new e-book entitled "For Mature Audiences Only: How to Redesign
Life and Work in the Second Half of our Lives" is being offered free
for signing up for this newsletter. If you are interested, go back
to the website or blog and sign up again to get the download link.
Your duplicated name will be deleted I promise.
And, if you know anyone else who might be interested in the book
or in receiving this newsletter, please feel free to forward this
to them.
Since you are reading the plain text version, you can't see the
new format for this. It has taken me hours to learn the new system
and I'm tired now, so the book review and journal sections will
return next month! Like the kids say, I'm LOL.
