Hey ,

It is probably around about the time of the year when you start thinking "oh noes I need to think about gifts for mum / dad / brother / long lost uncle / dog walker's cousin's sister's mother / secret santa". With student protesters smashing up Topshop on Oxford Street you'll have to forgo the pair of socks you had planned and be a little more creative.

If the person is into their cycling then here's five gift ideas for under £30 that can help you cross one more person off your Christmas list. If they are not into their cycling then buy them something cycling related anyway. Then when they say "why did you buy me a bike lock? I don't even have a bike" hint that now would be a good time to start. You can then feel good about yourself for bringing one more person over to the dark side of the cycling world.

Anyway... Christmas day is getting nearer every minute so on with the under £30 gift ideas..

  • Mobile phone bike mount - easily one of the best things I've bought for my bike. You mount your mobile phone to the handlebars and then you can use useful applications such as Google Maps to find your way around. This is a gift that will definitely be well appreciated (I'm currently testing out the Tigra iPhone Bike Mount which is £37.66 on Amazon)
  • Topeak Joe Blow - make their life easier with a floor pump. Not only will it mean they can finally get their bike tyres up to the required pressure (which makes for a quicker bike ride) but also they'll save a lot of time. This big gift will look great wrapped up! (Amazon £24.99)
  • Fibre flare bike light - a bike light they won't have hear of before. Unlike other bike lights the Fibre Flare provides excellent 360 degree visibility and can be seen from up to 300 metres away. You can clip it onto your clothes or your bike. (Wiggle £26.99)
  • Knog skink bike light - Comes in a range of colours and looks very, very cool (Amazon £9.99)
  • Assos chamois cream - Get a few sniggers from the non-cyclists in the room "haha you put that near your private bits!" and watch your victim, sorry, loving gift recipient justify themselves "try riding 80 miles without it". (Amazon £12.99)

For those of us that frequent Wiggle and Evans for our bike gear it's worth noting they have various good promo's on at the moment. Wiggle are doing 15% off £50 spends (details here) and Evans have 10% off bikes (details here).

Hope that helps with your Christmas gift shopping. On with the past couple of weeks content..
