The Newsletter
14th May 2009, Issue #1

The Debutant.

Welcome to the 1st issue of the LE Newsletter!

Thank you so much for subscribing and I hope you've been enjoying the eating so far. This newsletter is designed for you fast-moving peeps and it distills all the best stuff that was eaten in the past month. If you already follow the blog regularly, you won't see anything new in here. What you will see is a stripped down version of the best things to eat.

Treat this as a baby guide completely dedicated to eating out in London. It's bi-monthly, on the 1st and 3rd  Thursdays... except for this issue coz its abit special!

Additionally, Paula will be pitching in with the Newsletter to recommend great valued wines for you. Paula owns Ultimate Wine Company Ltd (follow her twitter @UltimateWines) and runs wine tasting events/oversea trips. I do hope you find her recommendations useful.

I have always said that LondonEater is completely dedicated to helping You find great gems in the city and this is the evolution of that idea.

It's early days, and I always appreciate feedback, so if you'd like to see something featured/improvements - send me an email, and I'll have a look at it.

Finally, if you believe in what I do, all I ask is for you to spread the word and tell your mates about LondonEater. Ok enough waffling, on to the eating!

Best,
Kang.

Bargain White

Eric Altenriederer 2007
Gruner Veltliner
(Traisenthal, Austria)

A light golden-yellow, with a light nose of minerals and spice. On the palate there are sharp green flavours, minerals again, spice, and cracked white pepper, and surprisingly good length for a wine at this price. It's a light but flavoursome style of wine ideally suited to seafood, fish of all types, and white meats. It makes a great summer wine - great for the barbecue! This is just a really nice wine at a very good price and ideal for sipping in the garden.

Bargain Red

Quinta dos Avidagos 2006 Tinto

Made from Tinta Roriz,Touriga Franca, and Tinta Barroca.  My notes - Fresh violets and juicy redberries on the nose, especially loganberries, with some cardamom and cinnamon.  The same flavours are on the palate with a hint of licorice and an intriguing vegetal note on the finish.  A stonker of a wine at this price! My colleague (Nick Dobson) notes: It has a forward nose packed with fruit, Asian spices, cloves, and some oak. On the palate it is velvety and soft, quite intensely flavoured, with plenty of ripe red fruit, and with a hint of dark peppery spice. Good length, with long finishing with more spice and fruit.

Deals I would try

Some deals which I think represent great value:

Le Buchon Breton, 2 courses for £10
Capetown fish market, 2 courses for £12.95

Only three which look alright to me in issue #1. Looks like they took the 50% deal for Sake no Hana away, and I don't see the Dorchester Grill Room for £35 anymore, I'll do better next issue with the offer sourcing.

Coming in Issue #2.

I hope you liked the first issue, do try out some of the recommendations, and email me your thoughts, if you liked or disliked it.

In the next issue, I'll be presenting the Must-Go List for May - Updated Monthly, its my personal ranking list of all the places I've reviewed, so far.  Currently Sushi Hiro tops the list, but things are likely to change, so do stay tuned for that.

You can see the April Must-Go list here.

Ok guys, that's it for now, happy eating!
