This Week's Blog: Thinking Differently
Have you ever been in a group situation where everyone was thinking one way...except for you? And have you ever felt alone when this has occurred? This week's blog addresses the issues that can come with being in a minority position in a group - including a reluctance to speak up at every point of disagreement. Research has shown that in order to overcome this phenomenon, there needs to be at least three minority-group members so that everyone feel's comfortable speaking out and sharing their opinion. When you are in a group that is evaluating a decision, do you listen to the minority view? When you are a part of the minority, what steps do you take to ensure that your opinion is heard fairly? After reading the blog, let us know - we want to hear from you!
Milestone Monday: Girl Scouts

This year marks their 100-year anniversary, and the Girl Scouts are celebrating by showing how the organization involves so much more than selling cookies and making crafts. You go girls!
Susan G. Komen Running in Circles?

Komen for the Cure foundation with unparalleled support of women's health, the Komen Fund pulled their financial support from Planned Parenthood facilities and planned to cut support for mammogram testing. However, in response to the social-media-fueled backlash to their move, the Komen Foundation reversed itself and announced that it will restore current Planned Parenthood funding.
Reproductive Rights
As part of a week filled by women's health in the news, the Obama administration has made a notable decision in favor of reproductive rights. Health and Human Services Secretary Sebelius announced that U.S. employers - with the exception of churches and other places of worship -would be required to fully cover the cost of contraception (including co-pays) for the women they employ. This ensures millions of women could benefit from birth control coverage, including those women who work for religiously affiliated organizations who formerly were not required to provide coverage for contraceptives. |
