We’re waiting for you, enjoy Fall in scenic Madison & Jefferson County! Sent Friday, October 2, 2009 View as plaintext

Fall has arrived in Madison & JeffersonCounty.

Let your enjoyment begin!

Take a Fall Drive . . .

The calendar shows that Autumn arrived on September 22nd.  Fall in our area is brilliant colors; festivals and events galore; soft, quiet mornings in your guest room; shopping in the wonderful businesses downtown.

For brilliant colors, the variety of trees, soil and weather in our area brings out breathtaking displays of oranges, reds, yellows and browns across the hills.  There are many ways to enjoy a leisurely drive to view the wonder of nature this time of year.

The Ohio River Byway meanders along the Ohio River banks, hugging its shoreline and offering almost continuous views of the river. The history of the Ohio is found both in rural landscapes and quaint river communities, covering periods from Native American habitation through western settlement, affecting transportation patterns and industrialization.  The Chief White Eye Trail through the rolling hills, farmland and forests of the eastern portion of JeffersonCounty near Canaan is magnificent during Spring and Fall.

Clifty Falls State Park is considered one of the State's prettiest parks and offers over 1300 lush acres with scenic overlooks, 70 foot rock gorges, seven waterfalls, nature center, picnic area, swimming pool, and campground. Hikers can enjoy trails ranging from 3/4 mile-easy, to 3 miles-rugged.  The grounds of Hanover College and the

Scenic Drive
entrance off Highway 56/62 are alive with color this time of year, too.  The Heritage Trail goes from downtown Madison to it's hilltop alongside the Madison Railroad's track for hiking or biking.  Other hiking and driving attractions can be found on our attractions & scenic routes or recreation pages.

Events & Festivals . . .

The Madison Aviation Spectacular is Saturday, October 3rd at the MadisonMunicipalAirport just west of town.  See antique aircraft, enjoy an air show, and have some food and a tour of the Airport.  The Spectacular is from 10am - 4pm.  Madison Municipal Airport is located off Highway 62 west of Madison off Boercherding Road;  look for the signs past Clifty Falls State Park.

The Soup Stew Chili & Brew is October 10th. This competition is held annually on

Main Street
Madison between Jefferson and West streets and is sponsored in part by the Madison Area Chamber Of Commerce.  The competition is open to anyone that wishes to enter, but is primarily a fundraiser for non-profits.  Last year's festival paid out more than $14,000 to 25 cooking teams. A competition even exists among the area's fire companies to see who has the best firehouse chili, as the Clifty 6 Fire Company defends it title this year.
