If you could learn how to bench press better from a pro, would you? Sent Monday, December 28, 2009 View as plaintext
Hi

If I could get you access to a professional powerlifter's bench press workout, would you be interested?

This guy does 500+ pounds without a special shirt and he's only been "serious" about powerlifting for 3 years!

As you know from being a regular reader of my site and blog, I believe that getting stronger is about the best way to gauge progress on an ongoing basis. Think of it this way: As you get better at the iron game, there are only a few ways to continue to overload your muscles (which, by the way, is the ONLY way to get bigger):
  1. Do more reps
  2. Do more in less time
  3. Add weight
The only practical method is to add weight. When you can do 10 reps with a given weight, 20 reps isn't going to help you get bigger.

And if you try to cram in so much work in ever-shorter time periods, you get to the point of ridiculous: Doing your whole workout in 5 minutes, then 4, then 3, until you're not working out at all!

Methodically adding weight to the bar is the only sure way to get bigger AND stronger.

Getting really strong in the bench will allow you to add more weight to your dips, inclines, declines, and flyes, allowing you to build your chest the way you want it to look.

If you want to know how to get super-strong in the bench press, let me know.
