Yahweh gave us some new revelation this week about how the Time of Jacob's Trouble ties into the tribulation week. Our study is both below, and attached. May Yahweh be with you, and bless you all. Norman * * * * The Anti-Messiahs Temple We have already seen how Catholicism and Islam are two legs of the same Babylonian beast. We have also seen how both Catholicism and Islam fulfill certain prophecies over the anti-Messiah, and how they are conspiring to build a temple together, in which an anti-messiah (substitute messiah) will serve. This will undoubtedly be the temple we saw in the last chapter, whose outer courtyard will be trampled by the gentiles for 42 months (Revelation 11:2). The pope already sits on a throne in Rome, which some say fulfills 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4. However, while the popes throne in the Vatican might be a minor fulfillment, it seems likely that we will also see a major fulfillment. This will likely take place after a nuclear exchange at seal 6, which will cause Jerusalem to be turned into an international city under control of the papacy. The papacy will then build a temple in which all of the worlds religions can worship together. This will perfectly fulfill Revelation 11:2, and other passages. Revelation 11:2 2 But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. Luke 21:24 24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. Catholic doctrine is that the pope is infallible when he sits on his throne. Pope John Paul II put the papal throne away from 1978 to 2006 (along with the claim to papal infallibility). The purpose of this was to help build relationships with those of other religious beliefs, which is an important aspect of establishing the United Religions Initiative (URI). However, the present pope has re-introduced the papal throne, as well as the claim to infallibility when he sits on his throne. Catholic doctrine is for priests to prostrate themselves before the pope, which qualifies as worship (either as a deity, or as a king). Hitgalut (Revelation) 19:10 10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Yeshua. Worship Elohim! For the testimony of Yeshua is the spirit of prophecy. While the pope/little horn probably enjoys seeing his own priests prostrate to him, it stands to reason that what he would really like is to move his throne to Jerusalem, and be worshipped by those of other faiths as well. However, he cannot presently do this, as the sister-faith Islam presently controls the Temple Mount. For their part, the Muslims bow down before an empty throne in Mecca. Below is Ayatollah Khomeini. The Muslims control the Temple Mount, but they have no one on their throne. The pope sits on a throne, but he wants to move it to Jerusalem, so he can be worshipped by all religions. Is the connection obvious enough? Above is a photo from the popes 2006 trip to Istanbul (the earlier Constantinople), where he entered into the Blue Mosque, and joined his Muslim brothers in prayer. Some say the Pontiff only meditated, but the point is that the head of the Roman leg of the beast joined together in worship with the Muslims from the other leg, while they prayed in the name of Allah. From there it is only a short stretch to accomplish joint worship on a much larger scale. The Pope also went to the Temple Mount in 5/2009, to meet with Muslim leaders inside the Dome of the Rock. Interestingly, both the Dome of the Rock (above and below) and Saint Peters Basilica in Rome (below that) are patterned after the Temple of Jupiter Stator (far below). We dont know this, but in addition to making a public show of Catholic-Islamic unity, the popes trip may also been intended to solve some long-standing issues about how to move the papal throne to Jerusalem in ways that would also please Muslims. Below is a picture of the inside of the Dome of the Rock. Would the Pope put his throne on the rock (elevated)? Or would he put it at ground level? Where will all of the players be stationed, so that when Muslims bow they can pray both to Mecca and the pope at the same time? According to our studies, the tribulation period is expected to be seven years long, based on Daniel 9. Daniel 9:25-27 25 Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times. 26 And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come (Titus) Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate. It is clear that Yeshua fulfills verse 25. He also fulfills the first part of verse 26, in that He was cut off, but not for Himself. The prince to come was probably the Roman General Titus, who destroyed the city and the sanctuary. However, from here it may turn into a future fulfillment, as there was no flood in the first century, either literal or spiritual. However, we will see that there will be a spiritual flood after trumpet 7, at the time of the cups. There will be a latter rain outpouring, and also the outpouring of the wrath of Elohim, in the cups. Some say that Yeshua fulfilled verse 27, in that He established a covenant with many, but it is not clear that He confirmed a covenant with many for one week. Rather, this seems to refer instead to a 7 year tribulation period that will be confirmed by the anti-messiah. It is expected that in the middle of the week he will bring an end to the sacrifice and offering, while one who makes desolate (perhaps the Islamic Mahdi) will be on the wing of abominations, making Yahwehs worship desolate. If the consummation is the wedding feast (Armageddon, Revelation 19:11) then the flood would be the cup judgments, which will be poured out on the desolate. Thus, those who have caused the desolation will themselves be made desolate in the day of Yahwehs wrath. If the 7 year tribulation period is broken up into a time before the daily sacrifice is taken away, and a time after, then the first 3.5 years will likely be a time of establishing the pope (or his Islamic counterpart) as the worldwide authority. If that is the case, then the second 3.5 years would be the Time of Jacobs Trouble, when the persecution begins in earnest. This would also correspond to the time of the 2 witnesses ministry. This is an extremely believable scenario that would put the fifth beast (Rome and Islam) in full religious power; and it seems to be playing out right before our eyes. In November 2010 a group of sixty Catholic, Christian and Muslim leaders met in Geneva, Switzerland, to call for the formation of a joint working group which can be mobilized whenever a crisis threatens to arise in which Christians and Muslims find themselves in conflict. In other words, the threat of war is on the minds of most Christians and Muslims, and they are looking for ways to avoid war. Catholics and Muslims officially agreed on several key points: The Land of Israel is occupied by Zionist Jews and needs to be liberated. Both Roman Catholicism and Islam are part of Gods (read: Satans) plan of saving mankind, since both represent the children of Abraham. All religions express some truths about Elohim, and need to be included to make an fulfilled picture of the creator. Jesus is the son of Mary. World peace will first flow out from Jerusalem when the three present main religions are able to live in peace, and come together as one voice and offer Elohim interfaith prayers. In the wake of a nuclear exchange in the Middle East, the majority of Christians, Muslims and Jews would likely agree to compromise on central tenets of their faiths in order to avoid future nuclear exchanges, particularly if urged by world leaders. Shabbat Shalom, Norman * * * * The Mark and Number of the Beast In the last chapter we saw how King Nebuchadnezzar dreamed of a statue with five body parts (a head, arms, belly, legs, and feet). These represented a succession of earthly empires (Babylon, Medea-Persia, Greece, Rome, and then Christianity and Islam together [as the fifth empire]). Body part: Earthly empire: 1. Head of gold Babylonian (Iraq) 2. Chest and arms of silver Medea-Persia (Iran) 3. Belly and thighs of bronze Alexander (Greece) 4. 2 legs of iron Roman Empire 5. 2 feet of iron and clay Christianity and Islam We also saw how the first three of these empires were likened unto certain animals. Empire Animal Babylon (Iraq) Lion Medea-Persia (Iran) Bear Macedonian (Greece) Leopard All of these animals appear again in Revelation 13, as part of a composite beast that comes out of the sea. The beast was like a leopard (Greece), except that the feet were like a bear (Iran), while the mouth was like a lion (Iraq). Together they make up the fourth beast (Rome-Islam), since we saw earlier that the Roman-Islamic beast would subsume all the empires that went before it (i.e., Babylon, Medea-Persia and Alexanders Macedonian empire). Daniel 7:7 7 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. The head that was mortally wounded in verse 3 may refer to the Ottoman Empire (an Islamic empire out of Turkey). It was mortally wounded on 9/11/1683, when the Islamic conquest was stopped at the walls of Vienna. Some might take this to mean that the end-time beast is Islamic (rather than Christian), but we need to remember that the end-time beast is both Islamic and Christian (and not just one or the other). Verse 5 tells us this Roman-Islamic beast will speak great blasphemies against Elohim, and that this will continue 42 months (3-1/2 years). This may be the same 42 months in which the 2 witnesses operate, and it seems to match what we know of the papacy. Hitgalut (Revelation) 13:1-10 1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast (Rome/Islam) rising up out of the sea, having seven heads (seven hills of Rome and seven mountains of Mecca) and ten horns (kingdoms), and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard (Greece), his feet were like the feet of a bear (Medea-Persia), and his mouth like the mouth of a lion (Babylon). The dragon (Satan) gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded (Ottoman Empire), and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon (Satan) who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast (Rome/Islam), saying, Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him? 5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months. 6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against Elohim, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. 8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. 9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10 He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. A second beast appears in verse 11, this time coming up out of the earth. It has two horns like a lamb (perhaps symbolic of Yeshua), yet it speaks like a dragon (Satan). This beast seems to fit what we know about the United Nations (UN). The first horn might represent the political legislative assembly of the UN itself, while the second horn might represent the United Religions Initiative (URI). The URI is an effort by the UN to create a united one-world religion that is supposed to bind all the people of earth together. Hitgalut (Revelation) 13:11-18 11 Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb (UN and URI) and spoke like a dragon (Satan). 12 And he exercises all the authority of the first beast (Rome/Islam) in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast (Rome/Islam), whose deadly wound was healed (Ottoman Empire). 13 He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. 14 And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived (Ottoman Empire). 15 He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast (possibly URI), that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666 (chi xi stigma). Verse 14 might lead us to think that the beast will be Islamic, since it says an image will be made to the beast that was wounded and yet lived (which was the Ottoman Empire). However, Islam and Christianity are both part of the same end-time beast. Therefore, all we can say for certain is that there will be an image set up to the Roman-Islamic beast. This image may be the URI. While it is supposed to be centered on the papacy, it will doubtless make serious accommodations to satisfy both Muslims, and those of other faiths. Historically, whenever the Roman beast has had the power to declare Catholicism the official state religion, it has persecuted (and even executed) all those who have opposed it. Given Romes track record, it seems reasonable to assume that if the UN is brought to full power (perhaps after a nuclear exchange at seal 6), that it will seek to eradicate all who refuse to convert, but especially fundamentalist Christians, Muslims and Jews. While it might be difficult to imagine that such a thing would be supported today, in the wake of a nuclear exchange there might well be a great deal of support for this kind of initiative. There might well be a great deal of public support for making Jerusalem an international city, with a joint temple in which Muslims, Christians and Jews can all worship side by side in peace and safety (as overseen by the pope). Those who refuse to convert to this new world religion might be demonized as a threat to joint peace and safety. In later chapters we will see that plans for such a joint temple are already underway. Verse 16 tells us we will have to take a mark of the beast, or we will not be able to buy or sell. Many people therefore suggest that the US dollar is this mark of the beast, because of all the satanic imagery on the back. The unfinished tower with the Luciferic all-seeing eye atop seems reminiscent of the tower of Babylon, and the Latin phrase Annuit coeptis novus ordo seculorum means, Announcing the birth of the secular New World Order (i.e., without Elohim). Clearly this is Babylonian money, but to suggest that the dollar (or any other physical, tangible thing) is the mark of the beast seems off. Yeshua and His disciples used the Roman currency of the day: did Yeshua and His disciples lose their salvation just because they used Roman money? Mattityahu (Matthew) 17:27-18:1 27 Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you. Many people look for a physical, tangible fulfillment of the prophecy over the mark of the beast, suggesting that such things as money, microchips, iris scans, barcodes, the Internet, and other physical things are the mark. But if Babylon is a spiritual empire, then how can it have a simple, physical mark? The unifying factor that all iterations of the Babylonian empire have in common is their desire to circumvent Elohims order by establishing their own (new) secular world order. They feel that if they can just establish their own order, then can live without fear of retribution by Yahweh. This has been their goal since early times. Breisheet (Genesis) 11:4 4 And they said, Come, let us build us a city, and a tower whose top (may reach) unto heaven, and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. There are seemingly good arguments as to why we should fear the dollar bill, microchips, barcodes, and all sorts of other physical, visible things as the mark of the beast. Some people tell us that the mark of the beast is when we have a physical RFID microchip implanted in our hands. However, if someone forcibly implants a microchip in our skin, does that mean we lose our salvation? Yeshua tells us that what enters a man from outside cannot defile him. Marqaus (Mark) 7:14-23 14 When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, Hear Me, everyone, and understand: 15 There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man. 16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear! 17 When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. 18 So He said to them, Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods? 20 And He said, What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye (i.e., greed), blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within and defile a man. It is that which comes from within that defiles a man, not that which comes from without. And, as we study Scripture, time and again what we see is that what Yahweh really cares about is what is in our hearts. This is why it makes more sense to consider that the mark of the beast is loyalty to the beast, as evidenced by our actions. Are we behaving in ways that are loyal to the beast? Then we have the mark of the beast. Yet if we are behaving in ways that are loyal to Yahweh, then we have Yahwehs mark. Yahweh is big on obedience to His commands. When we read through Scripture, Yahweh and Yeshua both tell us that it is obedience to their commandments that shows our love for Elohim. Yochanan (John) 14:15 15 If you love Me, keep My commandments. No matter what our surroundings, if our thoughts and our actions are not for Yahweh, and if we are not obeying His commandments, then no microchip (and no barcode) is needed to defile us, for we are already defiled. Similarly, even if the government puts a dozen microchips in our hands, and makes us use Babylonian currency, we can still be set apart unto Him. Verse 18 speaks of the number of the beast. This is the number both of the papacy (as the primary fulfillment), and of Islam (as the secondary fulfillment). Hitgalut (Revelation) 13:18 18 Here is wisdom. In Nazarene Israel we show how an anti-messiah is someone who pretends to be the Messiah, in order to lead the people away from obedience to Elohim. This is a perfect description of the papacy. In fact, one of the popes earliest titles was Vicarius Philii Dei, which means, Instead of the Son of the Deity, or In the place of the Son of the Deity. This title comes from the Donation of Constantine, which is a forged imperial document attributed to Emperor Constantine himself. It allegedly transferred authority over Rome and the western leg of the empire to the pope. The document was later proved to be a forgery, but the ruse was widely believed for centuries, and many Catholics still call the pope the Vicar of Christ (i.e., he who stands in for the Messiah). Beyond this, Latin (like many other languages) assigns numerical values to its letters. When one adds the numerical values of Vicarius Philii Dei together, one gets a numerical value of 666. If the Roman aspect of the beast is primary, the Islamic aspect is also important. The Hadith (Islamic oral law) foretells the arrival of a Mahdi (i.e., Islams messiah). Because the Muslims believe their Mahdi will only come after an apocalypse, they are eager for an apocalypse to come. Many believe this is why Islamic nations such as Iran are working to build atomic weapons, is to hasten the coming of this apocalypse (and hence, the arrival of their Mahdi). According to Islamic prophecies, the Mahdi will unite the Islamic world, and lead the people to worship All-h. (Clearly this will not come to pass, but we are relating it here so that we can understand what Muslims want.) There are many proofs that the book of Revelation was inspired in Hebrew or Aramaic; yet we know from other studies that the Aramaic Peshitta is not the original text (but that it has been translated from Greek). The Greek texts are older, and since they are older, they are more valuable for textual analysis. Interestingly, one of the oldest Greek texts, Codex Vaticanus, gives us some insight as to how the 666 relates to Islam. Below is a typewritten Interlinear Greek text of the 666 in Revelation 13:18. Reading from left to right, the first Greek letter, (pronounced chi) has a numerical value of 600. The middle Greek letter, , is pronounced xi, and it has a numerical value of 60. The third Greek letter, , is pronounced stigma. Although its numerical value has changed since the first century, in the first century the letter stigma had a numerical value of 6. When we put these three letters together we get , which has a numerical value of 600 + 60 +6 = 666. These Greek letters look very much like the Bismillah, which is Arabic for the name of All-h. If we flip the Bismillah around, we can see a striking similarity to the Codex Vaticanus, which is widely believed to be the oldest extant Greek manuscript, dated circa 350 CE. The line above the xi (under the words A.D. 350) is not an underline, but is actually part of the hand-written text. If one looks closely, one can see these same letters () next to crossed swords (denoting conquest) in the (Islamic) Chechin revolutionary flag, here flipped diagonally. The Greek of Revelation 13:18 tells us that the mark of the beast will be worn on the forehead or on the right hand; yet in Hebrew, the word for hand is the Hebrew word yahd ( ), means both hand and arm. This fits Islam perfectly, as Islamic jihadists wear the Bismillah both on their foreheads, and/or on their right arms. Below is a picture of a Hamas headband. Similar bands are typically worn on the right arm. If one looks closely and is willing to turn these images on their sides, one can see images that resemble the xi, the chi, and the stigma (). The evidence in favor of the Bismillah is compelling, but there are some linguistic and theological issues. The language of verse 18 does not seem to mesh with the idea that Yochanan was shown a Bismillah, and that he was trying to portray it in Greek letters. Further, the grammar of Revelation works in both Hebrew and Aramaic, but it does not work in Greek. However, there are some rationalizations for this, such as the possibility that Yochanan wrote Revelation in Greek, using Hebraic modes of thought. Another is that he may have written it in Hebrew, and that it was then translated into Greek. In any case, the Bismillah seems to fit. Chapters 12 and 13 have given us a lot of information that will help us make more sense of the timeline as it resumes. When we get to chapter 17 we will see that the Ottoman Empire may soon be restored, and how an ancient temple to Zeus may be set up on the temple mount, as the anti-messiahs temple. Shabbat Shalom, Norman * * * * Five Beasts in Daniel Prophecies, dreams, and visions all speak of the future, but the way they speak of the future is different. For example, prophecies usually speak of some concrete event. For example, Isaiah 9:5 foretells of the birth of Yeshua. We know this was a prophecy, because the fulfillment looked like that which was described in the prophecy (i.e., a divine Child was born). Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 9:5 5 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty El, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. In contrast, dreams and visions are usually much more symbolic. For example, in Daniel 2, Nebuchadnezzar dreamt of a statue that was set up on the earth, while a stone that was cut out of the mountain without hands, and struck the image on the feet. The image then fell into a heap of ruins, while the stone would expand to fill the whole earth. Daniel 2:31-35 31 You, O king, were watching; and behold, a great image! This great image, whose splendor was excellent, stood before you; and its form was awesome. 32 This image's head was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, 33 its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay. 34 You watched while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. 35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed together, and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; the wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found. And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth. Daniel interpreted the dream for King Nebuchadnezzar, telling him that his Babylonian empire would head a succession of a succession of Babylonian empires. All of these empires would be distinct from each other in the material realm, but they would all be spiritually Babylonian, because they all followed the same spiritual pattern of subjugating the things of Elohim to the things of the material world. First in the succession was Babylon, symbolized by the head of fine gold. Next was Media-Persia, symbolized by the chest and arms of silver. Third was Alexander the Greats Macedonian (Greek) empire, symbolized by the belly and thighs of bronze. Fourth was Rome, which was symbolized by the legs of iron. Finally there was Christianity and Islam, which was symbolized by the feet of both iron and clay. We will look at all of these empires in more detail in a moment, but one day all of these empires will fall, and be subsumed by Elohims kingdom. Daniel 2:37-45 37 You, O king, are a king of kings. For the Elohim of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory; 38 and wherever the children of men dwell, or the beasts of the field and the birds of the heaven, He has given them into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all -- you are this head of gold. 39 But after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to yours; then another, a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth. 40 And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others. 41 Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter's clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay. 44 And in the days of these kings the Elohim of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. 45 Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold -- the great Elohim has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure. Once again, the five empires are: Body part: Earthly empire: 1. Head of gold Babylonian (Iraq) 2. Chest and arms of silver Media-Persia (Iran) 3. Belly and thighs of bronze Alexander (Greece) 4. Legs of iron Roman Empire 5. Feet of iron and clay Christianity and Islam There are some important things to note here. In verse 39, most English translations tell us that Alexander the Greats empire would rule over all the earth. 39 But after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to yours; then another, a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth. (39) [ ] | [ ] However, we know that this does not mean the whole globe, because Alexanders empire did not span the whole globe. Rather, it meant that Alexanders empire would encompass the Middle East, which was basically the known world from the perspective of the average person in the ancient Middle East. This makes sense when we realize that the word earth is the Aramaic ara-a ( ), which corresponds to the Hebrew word aretz ( ). This word usually refers to the land of Israel, but it can also refer to the known world from the perspective of an ancient Middle Eastern person. We should also note that Alexanders empire basically went east, and much of the lands of his empire are now occupied by Muslims (who are part of the fifth beast). Next was the Roman Empire, symbolized by the legs of iron. The Roman Empire encircled the Mediterranean (including the land of Israel), and also extended far north, into Western Europe. Since Roman Catholicism was the official religion of the Roman Empire, many of these lands are today Catholic or Christian in some form (except where Islam has taken over). The governments of the old Roman Empire (and their colonies) all pay at least some form of respect towards Rome, and their governments are cordial with the pope. Later we will see that the papacy still exerts a massive influence on these nations even today. The five empires of Daniel 2 show up again in Daniel 7, where they are called four beasts. As we will see, a beast is any of the empires of Nebuchadnezzars dream (Babylon, Media-Persia, Greece, and/or Rome), and/or any spiritual extension of them. The reason the five empires of Daniel 2 can be represented by only four beasts is that, as we will see, Christianity and Islam are both spiritual continuations of the old Roman Empire. While the legs of iron represent Rome, the feet of iron and clay represent both Rome and Islam. Once we understand this, then we can understand how verse 7 says the fourth beast (Rome) would trample the residue of the third empire (Greece). While the lands of the third empire are presently occupied by Muslims, we will see evidence that Islam was created by the papacy, and is still spiritually controlled by it. Daniel 7:2-8 2 Daniel spoke, saying, I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the Great Sea. 3 And four great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other. 4 The first (Babylonian Empire) was like a lion, and had eagle's wings. I watched till its wings were plucked off; and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on two feet like a man, and a man's heart was given to it. 5 And suddenly another beast (Medo-Persian Empire), a second, like a bear. It was raised up on one side, and had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. And they said thus to it: 'Arise, devour much flesh!' 6 After this I looked, and there was another (Alexander the Greats Empire), like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird. The beast also had four heads (the four generals who succeeded Alexander), and dominion was given to it. 7 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast (the Roman Empire, including Christianity and Islam as a spiritual empire), dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. 8 I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words. Verse 8 mentions a little horn. This is the same as the little horn in verse 25 (below). In Nazarene Israel we show how this is the pope (or rather, the papacy). We also show how the papacy is perhaps the foremost fulfillment of the prophecies over the anti-Messiah. Verse 23 (below) tells us that Romes empire would be different than all those that had gone before it, such that it would devour the whole earth. The reason for this is that Rome would exercise not just military power, but also spiritual power. It would proselytize the people of the lands that it conquered and turn their allegiance to Rome. This was so successful that even those in the breakaway Protestant nations would still give some form of homage and respect to the papacy, even long after Romes military power had faded. Daniel 7:15-28 15 I, Daniel, was grieved in my spirit within my body, and the visions of my head troubled me. 16 I came near to one of those who stood by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of these things: 17 'Those great beasts, which are four, are four kings which arise out of the earth. 18 But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.' 19 Then I wished to know the truth about the fourth beast (Rome), which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its nails of bronze, which devoured, broke in pieces, and trampled the residue with its feet; 20 and the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up, before which three fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth which spoke pompous words, whose appearance was greater than his fellows. 21 I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them, 22 until the Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom. 23 Thus he said: 'The fourth beast shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be different from all other kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, trample it and break it in pieces. 24 The ten horns are ten kings who shall arise from this kingdom, and another shall rise after them. He shall be different from the first ones, and shall subdue three kings. 25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints of the Most High, and shall intend to change the appointed times (Sabbath and festivals) and the Torah. Then the saints shall be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time. In ancient times, the Catholic Church wielded immense power. Prior to the Protestant Reformation, a king had to have the popes approval if he wanted his peoples support. If the pope excommunicated a king, his people would soon turn him out. To stay in the popes favor, a king had to acknowledge the pope as the spiritual leader of the Christian world, and kings could gain further favor by strengthening the church in any lands they conquered. After the Protestant Reformation this changed a little, but not to the degree many people think. For example, in 2012 CE the Queen of England (who is at least nominally a Protestant) consulted with the Pope, and decided to appoint an Italian Catholic as the next Archbishop of Canterbury (which is the most senior bishopric in the Church of England.) Scholars debate who the ten kings mentioned in verses 20 and 24 are, but it should be clear that there are at least ten kings in Europe who derive power from the papacy in one form or another, and who operate with his blessings, or who collaborate with him. Because so many Christians do not understand that the papacy is the major fulfillment of the anti-Messiah, there is a movement within Christendom to re-unite all Christian sects back under the Pope. This is called the Ecumenical movement, and it is taken very seriously in many Christian circles. As we will see later, it is also endorsed not just by the papacy, but also by the UN, rabbinical Judaism, and mainstream Islam. For its part, the papacy has repeatedly called for a one world government under the UN (United Nations). In turn, the UN wants to establish a one world religion, by which it hopes to unite all of the people of the world. The UN plan is called the United Religions Initiative (URI), and it is widely believed that it will at least initially be headed by the pope, although others believe it may ultimately be headed by a Muslim. At least from one perspective there is no difference, since we shall see secret collusion between Rome and Islam (and Rome ultimately controls Islam). This would also be very pleasing to the Catholic Church, as Catholicism which was created as a universal faith to unify the disparate elements of the Roman Empire. It began as a religion loosely based on Scripture, but which had no qualms about sanctifying pagan idols and false feast days. It also has dominating hierarchical leadership (rather than true Spirit-submitted servantship). Because Rome ultimately controls both the Judeo-Christian west and the Islamic east, Revelation 17:18 calls Rome that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth. Hitgalut (Revelation) 17:18 18 And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth. Before we go further, we need to talk about Islam. In Nebuchadnezzars dream, the legs of iron represent Rome; and if iron represents Rome then the feet of iron and clay can only represent Rome and something else. That something else is Islam. This might seem an unlikely combination, as Muslims are generally at odds with Christians (much like Protestants are supposed to be at odds with Catholics). However, this is a perfect fulfillment, as Daniel 2:42-43 tells us the toes of the feet were to be partly of iron and partly of clay, so that the kingdom would be both strong and fragile. This can be understood at many different levels, but if we look at the fourth beast as a combination of both Christian and Islamic societies, we can see that Christendom and Islamic societies are both strong within themselves, but that they do not mingle, just as iron does not mingle with clay. Earlier we saw how the fourth beast would trample the residue of the other three empires (Babylon, Media-Persia and Greece) with its feet. Daniel 7:7 7 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. We also saw that Alexander the Greats old empire is now inhabited mainly by Muslims. So how can Rome have such control over Alexanders old empire that it tramples the residue with its feet? In 325 CE, the Roman Emperor Constantine held his infamous Council of Nicea, outlawing both Judaism and Nazarene Israel (see Nazarene Israel for more details). Five years later, in 330 CE, Emperor Constantine moved the capital of his empire to Constantinople, which is today called Istanbul. Istanbul is located in a beautiful and highly strategic location in Turkey. Sitting astride a narrow canal, one third of Constantinople (Istanbul) lies in Asia, while two thirds lies in Europe. This may be seen by some as being symbolic of the balance of power within the Roman-Islamic beast as a whole. While the pope is portrayed as a peaceful spiritual leader, the papacy has had standing armies in the past. They have also conducted black ops against their enemies. When Martin Luther nailed his famous 95 Theses to the door of the church in Wittenberg in 1519, the Catholics tried the normal measures to quell the revolt. By 1534 the Catholics realized the Protestant Reformation was not going to go away easily, and so they created the Jesuit Order as a secret black ops arm of the Catholic Church, whose mission it was to carry out clandestine warfare against Protestants, and against anyone else who did not submit to Catholicism. Part of the Jesuit oath of induction is here: I furthermore promise and declare that I will, when opportunity present, make and wage relentless war, secretly or openly, against all heretics, Protestants and Liberals, as I am directed to do, to extirpate and exterminate them from the face of the whole earth; and that I will spare neither age, sex or condition; and that I will hang, waste, boil, flay, strangle and bury alive these infamous heretics, rip up the stomachs and wombs of their women and crush their infants' heads against the walls, in order to annihilate forever their execrable race. That when the same cannot be done openly, I will secretly use the poisoned cup, the strangulating cord, the steel of the poniard or the leaden bullet, regardless of the honor, rank, dignity, or authority of the person or persons, whatever may be their condition in life, either public or private, as I at any time may be directed so to do by any agent of the Pope or Superior of the Brotherhood of the Holy Faith, of the Society of Jesus. This kind of thing did not begin with the Jesuits, and former Jesuit priest Alberto Rivera reported he was told in a secret briefing that the Catholic Church had been instrumental in founding Islam. The Catholic purpose was to destabilize and control areas outside of Roman borders, much like how the CIA might try to destabilize nations outside the United States. Mohammeds first wife was named Khadija. She was reportedly a faithful and devout Catholic, and according to some reports the Catholic Church told her to marry Mohammed. Not only would Khadija be able to feed information to the Catholic Church, but it would also give the Catholic Church a means of influencing Mohammed. According to these sources, Khadija also had a Catholic cousin named Waraquah. Waraquah helped Mohammed to write and interpret his visions, which formed the Quran (Koran). Waraquah also encouraged Mohammed to found his new faith among the children of Ishmael. Whether these legends are completely accurate or not, later we will see clear evidence that the Catholic Church and Islam are secretly in collusion, just as Daniel 7:7 indicates. There are many perspectives on Revelation, and especially on chapter 12. In this chapter we will seek to explain a few different theories about chapter 12, and show why we believe the past-tense perspective explains this chapter the best. Chapter 12 speaks of a great drama that takes place between a woman, her child, and a dragon (which verse 9 says is Satan). Most scholars agree the woman represents Israel, her son is Yeshua, and the garland of twelve stars on her head represents the 12 tribes. Hitgalut (Revelation) 12:1 1 Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. But what does it mean? Psalms tells us that Yahwehs word is a lamp for our feet, and a light for our path. Tehillim (Psalms) 119:105 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Proverbs also tells us that the commandment is a lamp, and the Torah is a light (for our path). Mishle (Proverbs) 6:23 23 For the commandment is a lamp, And the Torah a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life.... Malachi also tells us that Yeshua is described as the Sun of Righteousness, perhaps because His Spirit sheds so much light on our path. Malachi 4:2a 2a But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings.... If all of these things are true, then the woman Israel, who walks the pathway of Torah, is clothed with the light of the Sun of Righteousness (and His Spirit). Her 12 children (the 12 tribes) are a garland to her head. (Others say the woman is symbolic of Yeshuas mother Miriam. This might also work, so long as we remember that Miriam sought to keep the Torah.) Hitgalut (Revelation) 12:2 2 Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth. Others cite Revelation 1:1, which seems to say that the events described in Revelation could only take place after Revelation was written. Hitgalut (Revelation) 1:1 1 The Revelation of Yeshua Messiah, which Elohim gave Him to show His servants -- things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant Yochanan.... The author and date of Revelations writing are the subject of much dispute, but most scholars place it at either 68 or 95 CE (long after Yeshuas birth). This might seem to be conclusive, except that events both in this chapter and in chapter 13 clearly took place before Yeshua was born. Therefore, what makes the most sense to us is that rather than describing future events, chapters 12, 13, and the first half of 14 are inset into (or overlaid onto) the timeline. These chapters describe other themes that have been playing out for thousands of years now, but which climax in the end times. Next, verse 3 tells us of a fiery red dragon. Hitgalut (Revelation) 12:3-4 3 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. 4 His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. Prophecies and visions can have both major and minor fulfillments. Later, verse 9 will tell us that the red dragon is Satan, but many scholars also believe the red dragon symbolizes Rome (and especially her armies). The Roman legions often carried standards with red or purple dragons, and dragons were popular symbols in ancient Roman art. Some also suggest different interpretations for the third of the stars that were thrown to earth. These range from a third of the tribes to a third of the ministers, to the third of the messengers who joined Satan in his rebellion. (As mentioned before, Revelation uses the term a third part to refer to any large minority.) Those who believe chapter 12 belongs to the timeline tell us the Child in verse 5 is not Yeshua, but that it speaks of the future birthing of redeemed Israel, whom they believe will be taken up to heaven in the Rapture, while the woman (who apparently represents the rest of Israel, apart from the elect) will be taken to a place of safety in the wilderness for 1,260 days (3-1/2 years). Hitgalut (Revelation) 12:5-6 5 She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to Elohim and His throne. 6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by Elohim, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days. This interpretation is highly problematic. We saw that the trumpets sound one at a time, and the events which take place sometimes play out over months (if not years). While the trumpets likely play out over many years, the cups/bowls get poured out all at once. Hitgalut (Revelation) 16:1 16 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven messengers, Go and pour out the cups (bowls) of the wrath of Elohim on the earth. If there is a nuclear exchange at seal 6, it makes sense that this is when Jerusalem will be made into an international city, the temple mount will be given to the papacy, and an interfaith (anti-messiahs) temple will be built, with the outer courtyard being open to all manner of gentiles. Hitgalut (Revelation) 11:2 2 But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the set-apart city underfoot for forty-two months. It seems likely the tribulation will last 7 years, because this is what is mentioned in Daniel 9. Verses 25 and the first part of verse 26 speak of the Messiah Yeshua in the 1st century. The rest of verse 25 probably speaks of General Titus of Rome, although some believe it also speaks of a coming anti-messiah (and it is possible that there is more than one fulfillment). There is also much speculation that verses 26 and (especially) 27 speak of an anti-messiah confirming a covenant with many for one week (i.e., a 7 year period). Daniel 9:25-27 25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times. 26 And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; and the people of the prince who is to come (Titus) shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, and till the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 Then he (anti-messiah) shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate. Some say Yeshua fulfilled verse 26. However, while He was cut off in the middle of the week, it is not clear how He confirmed a covenant with many for one week. Therefore, this seems more like a more complete fit for the coming anti-messiahs temple of Revelation. Daniel 12 tells us there are 1,290 days from the time the daily sacrifice is taken away (and the abomination of desolation is set up), until some unspecified event. Logically, a temple has to be built and a daily sacrifice has to be established before the daily can be taken away, and an abomination of desolation set up. Only once this happens does the 1,290 day count begin. Daniel 12:11-12 11 And from the time that the daily [sacrifice] is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, [there shall be] one thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days. We will discuss the anti-messiahs temple in a later chapter, but while an anti-messiahs temple might be established relatively quickly, it might also take years. This is true even if all that is done is to convert the existing Al-Aqsa Mosque. Since 1,290 days is 30 days more than the 1,260 days of the 2 witnesses ministry, this countdown might well pertain to trumpet 7 and the beginning of the cups. Note also how Daniel also tells us that he who comes to the 1,335 days is blessed. This may be when the wedding feast (Armageddon) takes place. Whether the trumpets last 7 years, or some shorter length of time (such as 3-1/2 years), chapter 12 comes after trumpet 7 in the narrative. There are not 1,260 days in between trumpet 7 and the wedding feast (at Armageddon). Rather, there are likely only 75 days, counting 30 days from trumpet 7 to the completion of the cups, plus 45 days from the completion of the cups to the wedding feast (Armageddon). [30 + 45 = 75.] Surely the bride will want to be at the wedding feast, but this cannot happen if she is away at a place of safety for 1,260 days, starting after trumpet 7. Additionally, we saw earlier that the elect cannot be raptured out during the tribulation, because they must remain here on earth during the tribulation, since the tribulation is shortened for their sake. This alone destroys the idea that chapter 12 is a future fulfillment. Mattityahu (Matthew) 24:22-23 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened. We also saw that the great multitude dressed in white dies during the tribulation, and their spirits are caught up to heaven (Revelation 7:14). This is very different than their being transported to a place of safety for 1,260 days. All of these things taken together tell us that chapter 12 cannot be part of the regular timeline, but that it must be set into the timeline. Thus, the purpose of chapters 12, 13, 14 (and other chapters that are inset into the timeline) is simply to bring in more information, and tie in other longstanding themes that run throughout Israels history. What, then, is the historical meaning of verse 6? In the Nazarene Israel study we talk about how Daniel 7 tells us of an identical time, times, and half a time in which the saints were given into the little horns hand. Daniel 7:25 25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints of the Most High, and shall intend to change times and Torah. Then the saints shall be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time. In Nazarene Israel we explain how the bishopric of Rome rose slowly to power over the course of three centuries, asserting ever-greater power and influence over the assemblies worldwide; and how this authority was backed by Roman military might after Emperor Constantines conversion to Christianity in 311 CE, and the Council of Nicea in 325. At that time, Rome began persecuting all who chose to obey Scripture instead of obeying their doctrines. There are various end-points for this, but one is Martin Luthers famous protest in 1519, when he nailed his 95 theses to the door of the church in Wittenberg. Another is the victory of the English navy over the Spanish Armada in 1588. 1,588 - 1,260 = 328 CE 325 CE The dates and durations do not need to be exact, as the purpose is not to pinpoint exact dates, but rather to explain what is happening in spiritual terms. (The dates and duration of the Babylonian exile are similarly non-exact.) So we believe Revelation 12:6 is speaking of the period of time in between when Roman domination over Yahwehs people began, and when the Protestant people came out from under Roman military dominion. Pagan Rome used both red and purple dragons on their banners, while the military units often placed eagles on their flags, or on their flagstaffs. The eagle is still used on the flags and flagstaffs of many nations in modern times (compare with Nazi Germany), and the eagle is also generally used as a symbol for America. These symbols are not innocent. Ironically, it may be that the woman was carried by eagles wings as the Roman military went forth and conquered the known world for the church, and yet believers were able to maintain some elements of freedom outside of Rome. Next we read about a war in heaven, in which the dragon is identified as Satan, and he is cast to earth. Hitgalut (Revelation) 12:7 7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his messengers fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his messengers fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his messengers were cast out with him. 10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our Elohim, and the power of His Messiah have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our Elohim day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. 12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time. Those who advocate chapter 12 being part of the timeline can support their position with any of a great many passages. However, while we have already seen many reasons why chapter 12 does not work as a future fulfillment, it does work well as a past fulfillment. In fact, it might even pertain to Luke 10:18, where Yeshua saw Satan fall like lighting from heaven. Luqa (Luke) 10:18 18 And He said to them, I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Those who teach a future fulfillment of this passage give various interpretations of verse 14. Some say it is a parallel accounting of verse 6, while others say it is the same accounting. We do not see how any of these can be correct, as there are not 1,260 days in between trumpet 7 and Armageddon (and therefore, this chapter cannot pertain to the timeline). Hitgalut (Revelation) 12:13-17 13 Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child. 14 But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. 15 So the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. 16 But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. 17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of Elohim and have the testimony of Yeshua Messiah. What makes more sense is to assume this is a past fulfillment, explaining how Rome began to drive those who believed both in Yeshua and in keeping Torah into the outer reaches of its empire. The dragon spewed forth false doctrines (bad water), but the woman was helped by the earth, due to her distance from Rome. In the next chapters we will see more information that is inset into (or overlaid onto) the timeline, providing even more information about events that have been taking place throughout Israels history for thousands of years, only to culminate in the end times.
