In our last two devotionals we have concentrated on lying being a spirit, the origin of lies, and the significance of knowing the truth. You can go to our website at www.newlifenetwork.org to read the last two devotionals on this subject if you missed them.
Today, we want to concentrate on our responsibility as Christians to know the truth and not follow the lies of the enemy. You must remember that the
spirit of lying is from Satan but the vessels used to spread the lies will always come as angels of light. In other words, the lie may come from someone you respect and admire, it may come from the clergy, or it may come from a beloved relative. They may not even know what they are saying is a lie. They may have bought into the lie in seminary or from their parents or grandparents. This same lie may have been passed down from generation to generation.
History is replete with political leaders like Hitler and religious leaders like Jim Jones that have led many souls astray with their lies. Many people died as a result and many more are in spiritual bondage today. It is very important to remember this statement:
If you don’t know the truth, you will not recognize a lie!!!
This is why it is imperative to be born-again, be filled with the
Spirit, and know the heart of God and the Word of God. We live in a time of deep deception. There are lies and liars all around us. If you do not know the truth you can be deceived. The Bible tells us that even the elect can be led astray during these last days (Matthew 24:24).
It is not enough
to be a member of a church. It is not enough to have prayed the sinner’s prayer. It is not enough to have graduated from a seminary. It is not even enough to be an ordained minister. You must know God. You must know His heart. You must know the Holy Spirit. If you do not know God and His Word intimately then you can be deceived.
Listen to several scriptures that touch on the the description of liars, what God desires, and what our responsibility is:
And they bend their tongue, [which is] their bow for the lies [they shoot]. And not
according to faithfulness do they rule and become strong in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know and understand and acknowledge Me, says the Lord. (Jeremiah 9:3, AMPC)
They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the
things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. (Romans 1:25, NLT)
Behold, You {God} desire truth in the innermost being, And in the hidden part [of my heart] You will make me know
wisdom. (Psalm 51:6, Amplified Bible)
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing {which includes lies} that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God {which is truth}, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; (2 Corinthians 10:5)
