Abraham didn’t have a guitar strapped to his back. They weren’t going up
on the mountain to sing. Abraham was going up on the mountain out of obedience to God to sacrifice his son Isaac. True worship is obedience to God, it is doing what God says, obeying His word.
I use the example of my daughter Victoria coming up to me and telling me how much she loves me and how great a father I am. Then I say to her, "That’s great honey, I love you too, but could you go help
your mother wash the dishes?" And Victoria, acting as if she never heard me, just keeps saying how wonderful I am and how much she loves me. So I say again, “Thank you Victoria, but could you go and help your mother in the kitchen?" And once again, as if she never heard me, she says, “But Dad, I love you so much!"
She keeps telling me how wonderful I am, and how much she loves me, but I can’t
get her to do what I ask.
After that, I surely wouldn’t ask her to go do anything else, because she never did the first thing I asked her to do. Jesus said in John 14:15, "If you love me, you will obey what I command”. This may help some folks, if it seems you can’t get direction from God or you can’t hear Him speak. Go back and do the last thing He told you to do
and you’ll get back on track.
I Samuel 15:22 says, “But Samuel replied, "What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.”
To love Him is to obey Him.
