And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts. (Psalm 119:45)

Delighting in the Word of God
(by Chris Musgrove of Future Now)

Psalm 1:1-3 says, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.”

The Amplified Translation says, “Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather. But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night. And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity]."

There are three things we are told not to do in these verses. The first thing is don’t walk in the counsel of the ungodly. Secondly, don’t stand in the path where sinners walk; and thirdly, don’t sit in the seat of the scornful or mockers.

There are two things that we are told to do in these verses. They are to delight yourself in the law of the Lord (God’s Word) and meditate (mutter, think about) on the Word day and night.

The two things we were told to do will bring about four things: First, you shall be like a tree planted by streams of water. Secondly, you’ll bring forth fruit in your season. Thirdly, your leaf shall not wither. Fourthly, everything you do will prosper!

These verses remind me of Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

Trust in the Lord with your whole heart and don’t lean on your own understanding or thinking but acknowledge God in all your ways. If God is asking us to trust Him with our whole heart, it must mean you can trust Him only half-heartedly by leaning on your own understanding and by not acknowledging Him in all your ways.

You acknowledge God by acknowledging His Word (meditating on it day and night) and not leaning on your own thinking.

Psalm 119:105 says, "God ‘s Word is a lamp unto my feet,(it shows me where I am), and a light unto my path,(it shows me where I’m going)."

Let us acknowledge God in all my ways!!!!
