With Love, From Brooklyn
Get the "Tastes Just Like Brooklyn" gift set curated by the editors of Food Republic. Only $29.95 for a limited time.
Hello Darling! I hope this message finds you well. Spring in NYC has been mostly wet and cool, but this weekend looks to be picking up. A few months ago I launched a wholesale buying club to solve my own food access issues of not wanting to go outside of my neighborhood for all of the local brands I've come to enjoy.
About a […]

New + Good: The New York Locavore Experience + Escapemaker.com Local Food & Travel Expo

Hello Darling!
I've been up to no good in Bed-Stuy these past couple of weeks,
catching up on some much needed Primary Food (birthday fun,
sleeping, socializing, and DATING), and pretty much shirking
responsibility.
But spring's here which means it's time to get back to business!
Two Saturdays ago I was in Huntington, NY for the first time for
NOFA-NY's Long Island CSA fair (and NOFA's first year there). I
think it's safe to say that everyone who attended was surprised
that […]

New & Good: I Choose Life!

Hello Darling!
All week my friends and colleagues have been sharing and discussing
an article that claims a study finds that eating meat causes death.
So what?!
I'm much more interested in sharing my new wellness program with
you, but if you want to read more about how I feel about this
topic, click here.
For those of you who don't know, Central Brooklyn, an area of
Brooklyn that is home to the neighborhoods of Bedford-Stuyvesant,
Bushwick, Brownsville, Crown Heights, and […]

New & Good: Women Grow the World
Sent Monday, March 5, 2012
Hello Darling!
This past Saturday I hung out with the New York Agri-Women at their 2nd
Annual Meeting. It was great to see so many dynamic women growing,
raising, and building up agriculture in New York and beyond.
Did you know that Japanese husbands are acknowledged and awarded
for supporting their wives' as farmers/business owners? That was
one of the best takeaways of the day.
Learn more about New York Agri-Women here.
That evening I also walked about seven miles home, […]

Hello Darling!
The last time we connected, I went bare bones with the layout.
I've decided that I really like it and am going to stick with it,
at least for a little while.
What's changed for you since I last wrote?
Did you hook up with someone new, end a relationship, or get
married?
Did you get a new job, get fired, or launch a business?
Are you pregnant, delivering, or thinking very strongly about the
process?
Did you move halfway around the world, or just […]

New & Good: The No Frills Edition

Hello Darlings!
I hope this message finds you well.
I'm up before the sun to get ready to head to Albany this morning
where I'll be joining a few dozen good food and farming folks for
American Farmland Trust's No Farms, No Food Rally Day. This is my
second time participating and this year I hope I actually get to
speak to my own representative(s).
While I'm up there, I hope you'll check out what I've got brewing
in Brooklyn:
***I'm tired of traveling outside my […]

Hello Darlings!
It's the last day of January!
Blink, and it'll be May! :o/
I hope this update finds you well.
Black History Month begins tomorrow, and I'm going to spend
the next 28 days highlighting black and brown folks who are making history
right now with their work. I'll also be reflecting on my own history in food
and farming. I wonder what my grandparents would say about what I'm doing
today, having […]

Hello Darlings!
Can you believe we're halfway into January already?
How are you doing with your 2012 goals? Quite a few people will have dropped the ball about now, falling back into old patterns.
But not you, right?
I've heard really good things from several of you, like Rasheed who recently moved across the country to attend grad school and Donya who's off to Panama next month to learn Spanish and have an […]

Happy New Year Darlings!
It has been a busy first week of 2012 for me.
I'm writing this from Syracuse, where I'll be spending the
next few days immersed in LEAD NY. Today is the 180th Annual Forum of the New York State Agriculture Society, and they'll be presenting me with the Cap
Creal Journalism Award for an essay I wrote for NOFA-NY last summer about the
work I do to support a local food system.
I'm […]

Hello Darling!

Earlier this week I embarked on a minimalist(ish) project of reducing the STUFF in my life down to what's most important. It's amazing how much I've collected over the years - stuff I think I need, stuff I hold on to for later, sentimental stuff - and it dawned on me how incredibly lucky I am to be able to have so much STUFF in the first place.
Thank […]
