New Year's Eve | Thursday 31st December 2015

Fireworks

Everyone wants to know about the fireworks, so here goes.

New Year's Eve kicks off with the family program at Yarra Park and Footscray Park.

The midnight rooftop fireworks display can be viewed from any one of the 4 official live sites as well as anywhere in the greater Melbourne area where the city's unique skyline is visible.

Early Fireworks

Yarra Park
Families can enjoy free stage entertainment, films, games and a spectacular fireworks display at 9.30pm.

Where: Yarra Park - Located right next to the MCG

Footscray Park

Federation Square: is not a good place to see the fireworks because the tops of some CBD buildings are obscured. The live sites above are the best places to see the fireworks.

Skyline: You don’t have to be in the CBD to view the fireworks. Find your own location anywhere in the greater Melbourne area where you can see the city skyline. Views from further away provide a great show without all the hassle. For the best possible experience, listen to the official synchronised soundtrack live on FM99.7.

Channel 7: broadcasts live from the city from 11pm. Tune in for a 2015 retrospective, countdown and coverage of the midnight fireworks.

Taxis

Before heading out on New Year’s Eve it’s a good idea to add the phone number of a Taxi company to your mobile.
--> Arrow Taxis - 132 211
--> Embassy Taxis - 131 755
--> Silver Top Taxi Services - 131 008
--> 13CABS (Yellow Cabs) - 132 227

Melbourne CBD taxi rank locations
--> King Street (between Flinders Street and Flinders Lane)
--> 131 Queen Street
--> 50 Bourke Street (near Spring Street)
--> 190 Bourke Street (near Russell Street)
--> Crown Casino

Uber: Beware: if you’re planning to catch a Uber Taxi home, you might be in for a nasty surprise. The ride-sharing service’s surge-pricing policy means fares are expected to triple after midnight , meaning a trip to the suburbs could set you back hundreds of dollars.
