OREC NEWS
It's been a busy fall for OREC, with Sean O'Neill and Carolyn
Elefant representing OREC at a variety of events across the
country. At the end of September, Sean presented on behalf of OREC
at the Oregon Renewable Energy Conference in Coos Bay, Sept. 25 and
26, and represented the industry at EPRI's two day research
priorities meeting held at FERC October 28-29. Both Sean and
Carolyn attended the University of Massachusetts' Ocean Symposium
October6-7, after which Sean put in time at two renewable financial
events in Boston. Finally, on October 23-24, Carolyn moderated a
panel on marine renewables permitting at the Roger Williams marine
energy symposium.

SAVE THE DATE - Get ready for the second annual Global Marine
Renewable Energy Conference, scheduled for April 23-24, 2009 in
Washington D.C. The event will be held at the venerable Carnegie
Institute (http://www.ciw.edu )and we're aiming to
top the quality of last year's highly well received conference.
Watch for Save the Date announcements and a conference website, to
be released soon.

OREC OUTREACH - on the Hill, With Regulatory Agencies and
Transition Team

In early November, Sean and Carolyn conducted a teleconference with
Maureen Bornholtz for a briefing on the status of the MMS rules and
to convey members' concerns about the urgency of resolving the
jurisdictional disputes with FERC. That same day, Sean and Carolyn
met with Ann Miles and her staff for a briefing on where FERC is
heading with its hydrokinetic program. Finally, Sean also met with
key congressional staffers and continued outreach with DOE. In the
next week, we will approach our contacts on the Obama Tranisition
team to ensure that commercialization of marine renewables takes
priority for the new administration.

REGIONAL DEVELOPMENTS

OREC intends to begin coordinating information about regional
efforts on marine renewables moving forward in different parts of
the country. Please keep us informed of these new developments.
