Tip of the Week
Issue #63, June 10, 2010
ISSN 1947-2889

Hi !
Welcome to this week's issue of Executive Insight.
**From Judger to Learner**
We spend considerable time judging so many different things:
people, situations, and opinions, to name a few. When you find
yourself in the judger mindset, though, how receptive are you to
new ideas? How open are you? How eager are you to expand your
perspective?
Think of this as a continuum with "judger" on one end and "learner"
on the other. The closer you are to the learner end of this scale,
the more open you are. And, the nearer you are to the judger end,
the more closed you tend to be.
I first learned about this concept earlier this week thanks to Dr.
Terry Maltbia of Columbia University, and I've been reflecting on
it since then.
It's a great idea, because you can be entirely conscious about your
mindset at any moment. The best part is that when you find yourself
slipping into judger, you can make the choice to shift into learner
immediately.
When you're a learner, you're open to new ideas. You have greater
curiosity. You want to explore.
Now imagine what this would be like for the people who work for
you. Our people take their cues from us, so this idea has unlimited
possibilities.
I invite you to observe yourself in the coming days and consciously
shift away from judger to learner whenever possible. I'm excited
for you, because you'll truly experience a new outlook.
Let me know what you learn about yourself, and have a great week!
