Hi !
Welcome to this week's issue of Executive Insight.
Are You Paying Attention?
I had dinner with my friend, Deb, who was in New York speaking at a conference this week. Deb and I have known each other only for a couple of years, but we had a strong initial connection and have stayed in touch since then.
I told her how something she accomplished had inspired a decision that I made. She seemed genuinely surprised that her actions had influenced me.
This happens all of the time. You never know when something you say or do will resonate with someone and have an impact.
Think about how you gather information when you make a decision. You draw on information and resources that give you the insights and knowledge to decide effectively.
Sometimes a visible, public persona inspires us. More often than not, though, inspiration comes from the unexpected in the ordinary conversations and experiences in life.
But what happens if you're not paying attention?
Obviously, you'll miss it. You don't even know what you're going to miss because you're simply not paying attention. Imagine that!
Listening and observing are great skills to develop. Most people aren't very good at them, but it only takes a little discipline to cultivate and improve them.
Make a commitment to listen and observe a little more closely this week. What you see and hear may amaze and inspire you in the most unexpected way.
Have a great week!
