Executive Insight
Tip of the Week

Hi !

Welcome to this week's issue of Executive Insight.

Let It Go

Sometimes you just need to let it go. "It" can be anything. The other day I realized that one of my favorite silver bracelets was missing from my wrist, and I became very distracted when I retraced my steps trying to find it. When I ran out of options, I needed to let it go. If I hadn't, I would have been distracted for the rest of the day.

Obviously, the bracelet is a metaphor. You'll know when you need to let go because chances are, you are too attached. It can be something that you do all the time, or it can be a dream that you're holding on to that never quite comes into focus.

Staying so affixed to an idea, a person, a concept - any concrete thought - can prevent us from seeing opportunities in other areas.

Here are some examples of things you might need to let go of:
  • A hiring decision that no longer works for your company
  • A marketing strategy that doesn't serve your business direction
  • A self-imposed deadline that no longer makes sense
  • A toxic client who drains your energy, but pays you on time
  • A perfect prospect who isn't ready to buy from you
Think about the times when you've "let it go." I'm willing to bet that the outcome was better than the situation you were in before. Think about what you need to shed now - it's a good time to do so.

And, by the way, I found the bracelet that night in the foyer of my apartment. That makes a particularly happy ending, and I was even happier that I had "let it go" earlier and not wasted my day brooding over it.

Have a great week!
