Tip of the Week

Hi !

Welcome to this week's issue of Executive Insight.

Stay in Touch Over the Summer

As we approach Memorial Day weekend - the "unofficial" start of summer - I've heard too many people who are becoming complacent about business development.

Although it may seem like a great time to improve your golf or tennis game, it's a better opportunity to zero in on your target list of clients and prospects. If you disappear for the summer (or any other time, for that matter), they won't have you top of mind when they're in a buying mode.

If you have a good marketing plan, of course, you're all set and know what you're going to do in the coming months.

If you don't have a good marketing plan, however, it's not too late to take action. One approach is to demonstrate value by providing your clients with content that means something to them. Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

  • Create a top ten list as a way to showcase how your product or service solves a problem. For example, "Ten Ways You Can Damage Your Computer Network if You Try to Repair it from a YouTube Video."
  • Write a short special report on industry issues that are meaningful to your target market. For example, "How the Stimulus Plan Can Save You Money in 2009."
  • Craft an email message with some optimistic news for your clients. Your subject line could be, "Rates are Down and XYZ Mortgage Company is Up to its Eyeballs in Refinancing Requests."

Any of these ideas would be welcome by your client base, and will enhance your relationship with them.

I'd love to share your ideas with our readers, so please send me some of the ways you stay connected to your clients.

Have a great week, and Happy Memorial Day!

Leadership and the
Bottom Line
Creating a "boss persona" by trying to be someone you're not, is a tactic that usually backfires. You lead most effectively by being who you are, not who you think you should be.
