Hi !
Welcome to this week's issue of Executive Insight.
More Than Meets the Eye
I needed to go to an optician when I was in Phoenix a few weeks ago. I had the pleasure of experiencing Central Eyeworks, owned and operated by Jim Gerlach, "President & Janitor" (as noted on his card).
(I didn't randomly discover this optical shop. My aunt and her family are customers, enough so that they seem to have a running tab with Jim.)
The shop was bright and cheerful. In hindsight, one of the things that made it so cheerful was that there was a lot of laughter. Jim and his colleague, Tommy, were fun, easy to work with and knowledgeable.
Jim sets a welcoming tone from the moment you enter the store. The environment, the ease of doing business, and the interest in you as a customer were impressive. They could have just as easily adjusted my glasses without any real conversation, and that would have been fine.
Instead, they wanted to know how long I was going in be in town, what were my plans, what was going on in New York....much more interactive dialogue than the usual retail encounter.
"Experience" is the operative word. When you do business with the public - whether it's business-to-business or business-to-consumer - how do your customers or clients experience it?
- Is the experience consistent over a period of visits?
- Does the experience "fit" your product or service?
- Does it create enough of an impression that people wouldn't think twice about coming back?
If you haven't thought about this, consider these questions and begin to craft an experience that is authentic for your product or service.
Have a great week!
