Hi !
Welcome to this week's issue of Executive Insight.
**Set Your Pace**
Have you noticed that business activity seemed busier at the end of
August than at the beginning of the month? Since the week that
approaches the U.S. Labor Day holiday is often a little sleepy, I'm
optimistic that this portends well for the fall months ahead.
But I could just as easily have a pessimistic outlook, especially
if I pay extra attention to the news. And either way, my perception
would be real to me.
Whether my optimism is rightly a harbinger of greater activity
ahead,it's a good reminder that we get what we create. If we think
that business will be slow, then chances are good that it will be;
and if we believe it will pick up, then that's what we focus on.
The upcoming holiday weekend is a great time to think about the
four months ahead, specifically, what changes you might make to end
the year on a high note. Here are some ideas to guide your thoughts:
* What are the three most important things that I want to accomplish
by year-end?
* Where do I need to exercise more discipline?
* Is my attitude reflecting the best of me?
* What is no longer tolerable?
* What could I add to my life to bring a new dimension?
Don't try to make massive changes, rather think in terms of
discrete small changes that you can truly commit to accomplishing.
Think about setting your pace for the fall the way an elite runner
would do in a footrace. You want to move at a certain speed so
that you maximize your distance without burning out. Then, as you
approach the end of the race, you still have enough juice to sprint
to the finish line.
I recommend that we set a great pace in September to give us a good
head start on the fall. So enjoy the unofficial end of summer and
the holiday weekend.
And, on a personal note, Happy Birthday to my friend Judy, who
celebrates a "milestone" birthday today. May you set a fabulous
pace in the decade ahead!Have a great week!
