I had a delightful reprieve from cold and wintery New York for a few days when I attended the annual conference of my assessment partner, TTI Performance Systems, in Phoenix. It was great to see many special friends and colleagues (including many valued EI subscribers!), as well as to spend some quality time with my aunt and her family.
One of the sessions that I attended was co-presented by TTI chairman, Bill Bonnstetter. He mentioned a tactic that I've used over the years; however, his comments sparked an idea about how to use this particular approach in a different way that could be great for marketing.
It was right in front of my eyes, but I never saw it.
How many times does this happen to you? Something is too close that you can't see it. And, obviously, if you don't see it, you can't act on it.
One of the main reasons we don't see what's right in front of us is because we have so many demands on our attention. When I attended that session, I was relaxed and focused on what was being said. I wasn't worrying about phone calls that I needed to return, email to send, what was going on in the office, what time we were going to break, etc.
It's a great reminder about the importance of being fully present.
When you're focused in the moment, you're more likely to see what's right in front of you. You're more likely to grab an idea and run with it, than to let it evaporate before you even recognize it.
During this coming week, I encourage you to be more present, and open yourself to what you can see that has been sitting in front of you all along.
Just imagine what you might discover...
