Hi !
Welcome to this week's issue of Executive Insight.
Time for Renewal
I've been thinking about personal renewal recently, what with the arrival of Passover and Easter bookending this week. It's a wonderful time to reflect on renewing as the blooming flowers and trees of spring are reminders of our capacity to flourish.
My conversation with a friend whose professional life has turned upside down reinforces this theme. He's facing a situation where all the rules have changed in his industry and "business as usual" has flown out of the window. Simply put, the old way is gone.
My talented and resilient friend will do well regardless of what happens in his industry. I mention his situation because you may be experiencing some variation of his.
I think my friend should take advantage of the turmoil, and use the concept of renewal to propel forward. Here is the beginning of a personal checklist to consider:
- Think of what you do best and describe it clearly in a sentence or two that a 10 year old can understand.
- Next, how can you leverage this talent? In other words, what else can you do in your current situation where you can use or expand upon this talent?
- Does a new service or product offering emerge as you ponder the leverage question?
- Where else can you apply this talent?
- Who can listen to you and brainstorm as you work through your renewal?
Again, these questions are a starting point. My important message today about renewal is for you not to be fearful or paralyzed by what you can no longer do. Instead, why not feel energized by using your talent in new ways that you haven't yet considered.
Enjoy this time of renewal, and my best wishes for a happy holiday season!
Have a great week!
