Hi !
Welcome to this week's issue of Executive Insight.
Lazy Days of Summer
I'm all in favor of taking some time off, but not while you're in the office.
Glen Boehmer, president of Sentinel Printing Company, has at least a dozen things that he recommends doing during quieter periods. Here are three that anyone can adapt easily.
- Clean up your database. Your list is one of the most important assets in your business. If it's cluttered, outdated, or incomplete, you can't use it to market your services. Bring in an intern or your unemployed teenager to do the data entry and address checking.
- Get on the phone. Of course, updating your database provides the perfect reason to call past clients. I know this seems obvious, but too many people focus on email rather than voice. A conversation is different than correspondence.
- Be opportunistic. Evaluate new business opportunities that can enhance your core business. There are windows of opportunity everywhere; we just need to know what we're looking for. A line extension or a strategic alliance may provide your company with just the positioning that will make a difference between plodding or blasting through the recession.
If the next couple of weeks before Labor Day seem like they will be slow, take one or more of Glen's great ideas and implement.
And remember, it doesn't have to be perfect. Don't be lazy - do something!
Have a great week!
