Want to watch it live? Atheist & Christian Book Club [Your advice, please]

Published: Thu, 12/07/17

UPDATE: Atheist & Christian Book Club - Friday we had our second largest club meeting yet with 24 in attendance including 6 new members. We are a group of Christians and atheists who meet monthly for intense but respectful discussions about important books from both perspectives. As Christians, we have the opportunity to hear (and answer) some of the best arguments against our faith. We are also privileged to make our best case for the truth of Christianity.  Justin Brierley Interview Video 2 of 3

This month, we discussed the Christian book Unbelievable? Why After Talking with Atheists for Ten Years I'm Still a Christian, by British author and radio host Justin Brierley. Justin was kind enough to let me interview him for a 3-part video via Skype, live from his home in London. I sent you part one of the video on Friday. Just click here for part two (9 min.): Video: Justin Brierley Interview Part 2 of 3.

I was surprised that three of our new members first learned about our club by listening to Justin Brierley's podcast. Its really amazing that they live right here in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area but they found out about us from listening to Justin's radio show broadcast from London.

Would you like to visit our club by video streaming on Facebook Live?

I would really like your feeback on this. We are currently limited by geography and office space to about 35 members max who must live within driving distance of Arlington, Texas. I think there may be a huge interest in the club if anyone could sit in on the club and perhaps even participate wherever they live. We could do on video by live streaming on the internet.

The technology currently exists to simultaneously stream our club meetings live on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Periscope, etc. so that anyone could watch it live. We could even setup real-time participation through live messaging or chat. To do it right would be a huge step involving multiple cameras, live camera switching, proper microphones and sound mixing. Nevertheless, I'm intrigued by the possibilities of including a large number of atheists and Christians from around the world in these discussions.

So what do you think? Would opening up the book club to anyone via live streaming sound like an interesting idea? Please drop me a quick email and let me know your thoughts.

As 2017 winds down I want to thank those of you who pray for our outreach. I know that your prayers and support is what makes ministries like this possible. Please keep our staff and their families in your prayers and have a blessed Christmas!
