QBOTMC News - Bat's Wings Block, Scraps and Choc Peanut Butter Cheesecake!

Published: Tue, 05/23/17

Hi ,

We hope you've had a great week. This week here has been one of those weeks when
time passes, and things happen, but you feel like there's not much to show for it at the
end of the week.  Nothing bad, and nothing extra good, just more of the same.

I did get a fun new bag made, and I'm still quilting a new quilt (for the magazine, so I
NEED to finish that this week!).

The kids are behaving, and the puppy not so much, my DH is back after a few days
away, and my jonquils are out in the garden outside my window... a peaceful happy
week then.

I'm in like with this week's new block.  The Bat's Wings Block is not that exciting by
itself, but I think it's kinda great when you put a few together.

I found these tips for adding to your scrap quilting fabrics from the Quilting Daily Blog too:

"Here are a few tips from scrap quilter Lynn Harris:

1. Let your sewing and quilting friends know you’re interested in scraps. Many sewers don’t
like to use scraps or small pieces of fabric and will be happy to give you their leftovers.

2.Precuts are an easy way to add some variety to your scrap pile. Jelly rolls, layer cakes,
charm packs, and even mini charm bundles will add a bit of variety.

3. Pick up scraps off the floor or out of the rubbish bins at sewing retreats. Yes, even tiny
pieces can sparkle in a quilt. I am often surprised at the sizes of fabric some people toss
in the trash!

4. Resale shops and garage sales often have inexpensive clothing that you can cut up and
add to your stash. Look for lightly worn woven cotton fabrics that you like."

This recipe sounded like something worth trying too...

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake in a Glass

Ingredients

    1/3 cup roasted unsalted peanuts
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/4 cup water
    1/4 cup thickened cream
    110g / 1/4lb dark chocolate melts
250g / 1/2 lb block cream cheese, softened
    1/3 cup brown sugar
    1/3 cup crunchy peanut butter
1 teaspoon gelatine, dissolved in 1/4 cup boiling water
1/2 cup thickened cream, extra, softly whipped

Method

Step 1
Spread the peanuts on a baking paper lined baking tray.

Step 2
Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan and cook, stirring occasionally, until sugar
has dissolved. Boil, without stirring, until golden. Remove from heat and carefully pour
over peanuts. Allow to cool and harden.

Step 3
Heat the cream in a saucepan, bring just to a boil then pour over chocolate and stir until
smooth. Cool slightly.

Step 4
Beat the cream cheese and brown sugar with an electric mixer until smooth. Stir in the
gelatine then the peanut butter. Fold through the whipped cream.

Step 5
Finely crush half of the peanut brittle in a food processor. (Break other brittle into pieces
for decoration.) Spoon half of the crushed brittle into the base of each serving glass. Pipe
or spoon in cheesecake mixture. Top with chocolate sauce and remaining crushed brittle.
Decorate with brittle pieces. Serve immediately.

Keep an eye out for this week's bag pattern too!

Until Next Week - Happy Quilting!
