QBOTMC News - Tree Everlasting Block, Tips and 2 Ingredient Choc Mousse!

Published: Tue, 02/14/17

Hi ,

We hope you've had a good week.  I think I jinxed myself last week with all that talk about
how productive I'd been.  Not only have we had EXTREME heat this past week, but
Master 12 ran into a bit of trouble at his school camp.

We received a call from a teacher the first night to say he'd fallen and hurt his shoulder.
A not-so-quick trip with the teacher to the local hospital, and our boy was back at camp
with his arm in a sling.  Nothing drastic, but it stopped him from the canoeing, abseiling
and climbing activities they had planned.

We got a second call the following night saying there was another health issue with him.
(He's normally 100% healthy.) This time my DH drove down and picked him up, then I
took him to our local hospital to get it checked out.  They ended up admitting him for a
couple of nights, so we spent most of the weekend hanging out in the kids' ward.  He's
OK now I think, and even though our weekend (or his camp) didn't go as planned, there
was a silver lining... the hospital is air-conditioned!  He even mentioned something about
wanting to go back, 'cause it was cooler there..... KIDS!

Anyway...  Annette and I are heading off to do a local Quilt Show this weekend at Castle
Hill in Sydney, so all had better be quiet on the home front!

This week's block looks like a nice 'pieceful' one to try.

Some Machine Quilting tips to try:

•  If you can't lower your feed dogs for free-motion quilting, set the stitch length to zero to
reduce their movement.

•  Use a straight-stitch throat plate (single hole) for less puckers while quilting.

•  Use the serpentine or the running stitch as a substitute for the straight stitch when quilting
in the ditch. Set at a narrow stitch width, the stitched curves cross from one side of the ditch
to the other so you don't have to worry about precise needle placement.

I just saw a recipe too, for

Two Ingredient Chocolate Mousse

(And what's not to love about that!!)

You Need:

250g (1/2lb) Dark Chocolate Melts
600ml (20fl oz) thickened cream

Put 200g of the chocolate in a bowl with half the cream and microwave on med-high for 1 minute.
Stir every 20 seconds.

Whip the remaining cream and fold it into the melted chocolate mixture.

Spoon into glasses or bowls and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Top with remaining chocolate (chop or grate for finer size pieces), and enjoy!

Yum!!

Keep an eye out for this week's bag pattern arriving shortly too.

Until Next Week - Happy Quilting!
