QBOTMC News - Steps to the Altar Block, Quilting Tips, Chocolate Slice

Published: Tue, 07/11/17

Hi ,

Well - what a week!!!  Maybe it was the antibiotics I'm still on, or maybe it was technology
just off doing its own thing again, but I've done and re-done the magazine this week, and I
do hope you all received a copy you could open OK now.  Phew!  At least my sewing
machine is still talking to me nicely this week!

It's still school holidays here, and I've felt a bit guilty that I've ignored the kids while I was
fixing my technology.  Still - they're happy with their head stuck in their ipads, and I actually
don't think they've really noticed that I was off working.  They're about to get a big dose of
'outside time' next week.  My DH has decided that we should go on a day trip to some caves
a couple of hours from here, and go adventuring.... Fun, but much colder where they are... :(

This week's block is a funny one, but actually looks good when a few of them are laid out together.

Please click the link to download the Steps to the Altar Block, and you'll see what I mean.

I put this advice from Leah Day in the magazine, but I really liked it, so here it is again:

A Little Advice from Leah:

• If you want to get good at quilting, quilt daily.

• Stop stressing about perfection. Perfection does not exist past 25 inches! Actually, make
that 5 inches.

• Don't be afraid of your tension dial - it was put there for a reason.

• Quilt because it makes you happy, not because you need to "finish this damn quilt!"

• If you've never quilted before and are waiting for that perfect day when the kids are grown
or you're retired, STOP WAITING! Today is the day, now is the time, get off your butt and do it!

• Eat, Quilt, Sleep, Repeat.

When I feel stressed - I turn to chocolate...

Chocolate Slice

Ingredients

    125g (4.4oz) butter, melted
    1 cup brown sugar
    1 egg
    1 teaspoon vanilla essence
    1/2 cup plain flour
    1/4 cup self-raising flour
    2 tablespoons Cocoa
    1/2 cup shredded coconut

Icing

    1 cup icing sugar
    2 tablespoons Cocoa
    2 teaspoons butter
    2 tablespoons hot water

Method

Step 1

Mix all slice ingredients together and bake in a slice tin for 25-30 minutes at 180C/356F.

Step 2
Meanwhile, combine icing ingredients in a bowl.

Step 3
Cool slice, then ice with chocolate icing and sprinkle with extra shredded coconut.

Quick and easy and I suspect quite yum.

Until Next Week - Happy Quilting!

Jody & Annette
