QBOTMC News - WCT Union Block, Laughs, and Choc Grapefruit Mousse Cups

Published: Tue, 06/27/17

Hi ,

We hope it's been another good week for you this week.  I had a fab day at the Sydney
Quilt Show last week - the standard of quilts on display in the show was way better (I
thought) than for the previous few years, and we really enjoyed taking our time walking
around and checking them all out.

It was great to see new exhibitors too at the show, with all kinds of yummy fabrics and
handy notions on display.  Looked like they were all busy too, which is ALWAYS good
to see!  Time to start counting down the days now until the show comes to Canberra, and
we can trek down there for that too.  This time we'll take the Misses 11 with us - they're
quite fond of impulse buying all things crafty....!!!!

This week's block is the W.C.T. Union block.  I have to confess - I have no idea what the
name means, but it's an interesting pieced block, and I love the way it makes a whole new
pattern when you lay a few out together.

I just saw this recipe, and it's super healthy, but still feeds my wish for chocolate...
Worth a try I think!

Grapefruit Chocolate Mousse Cups

Ingredients

    1 Ruby Red grapefruit
    2 avocados, halved
    2 tablespoons honey
    2 tablespoons cocoa powder
    60ml (1/4 cup) water
    125ml (1/2 cup) honey, extra
6 Ruby Red grapefruit slices, extra

Method

Step 1
Halve the grapefruit and juice. Remove any membrane from the inside of the grapefruit
skin and discard.

Step 2
Process the avocado flesh, honey, cocoa powder and 2 tbs grapefruit juice in a food
processor until smooth.

Step 3
Spoon the mousse into a piping bag fitted with a 2cm fluted nozzle. Pipe the mousse
into the grapefruit halves and place on a baking tray. Place in the fridge for 1 hour to chill.

Step 4
Meanwhile, place a wire rack over a baking tray. Heat the water and extra honey in a
frying pan over medium heat. Add the extra sliced grapefruit and cook, turning halfway,
for 30 minutes or until translucent. Transfer to the wire rack. Set aside for 1 hour to set.

Step 5
Top the mousse cups with the caramelised grapefruit.

Until Next Week - Happy Quilting!
