QBOTMC News - Berry Basket Block, Poem and Chocolate Hummus

Published: Tue, 08/29/17

Hi ,

We hope you've had a good week this week.  It's been a bit upsetting this week to hear
about the ongoing dramas caused by Hurricane Harvey in Texas.  We can only send our
best hopes and wishes for those dealing with the huge flooding, and hope it ends soon,
so they can start the not-at-all-fun task of the big cleanup.

Houston has been on our minds these past few weeks anyway, as we've been booking
to go to the Quilt Festival again in October/November this year, and with this flooding
still unfolding, we're just going to have to wait to hear about if it's been affected at all.
Small dramas I know compared to what those going through it now are dealing with,
but it's still a small world, and these disasters seem to have far-reaching effects around
the world.

On a happier note, this week's block is another fun basket block.

I've been hanging onto this poem I found for a while.  I've just put it on the quilt label for
a quilt I made for one of my best friends, and I thought you might really like it too...

Our Friendship is a Patchwork Quilt

Author Unknown

Our friendship is a patchwork quilt, a beautiful design,
stitched with heart-made patterns, uniquely yours and mine.
It's made of scraps of memory and joys of every hue,
colorful together times, with laughter woven through.
Our friendship's stuffed with kindness and filled to overflowing
with heartfelt understanding, warmly comforting and knowing.
Our friendship's bound to last the years, for every cherished part
is seamed with care and sewn with love... an heirloom work of heart.

I was thinking this was the week for more chocolate, but then I came across a healthy
alternative.  Sounds a little funny, but I bet it's delicious!

Chocolate Hummus

Ingredients

400g/14oz can chickpeas/garbanzo beans, rinsed, drained
    1/2 avocado
    2 pitted medjool dates
    2 tablespoons maple syrup
    2 tablespoons dark cocoa powder
    60ml (1/4 cup) warm water
    Pretzels, to dip
    Fresh fruit, to dip
    Pita chips, to dip

Method

Step 1
Process the chickpeas, avocado, dates, maple syrup, cocoa powder and water in a
food processor until smooth, adding 1 tbs extra water, if necessary.

Step 2
Spoon the chickpea mixture into a bowl. Serve with pretzels, fresh fruit or crispy pita
chips as a starter, dessert or after-school snack

I'm going to make this dip and not tell the kids what's in it , and see if they like it...
tricks Mums have to try!

Until Next Week - Happy Quilting!

Regards,

Jody & Annette
