QBOTMC News - Letter H Block, Hand Sewing & Nutella Hot Choc!

Published: Tue, 07/04/17

Hi ,

We hope you've had a great week this week.  I learnt something about myself this week,
and it is that I don't make a good sick person.

I have had a decent touch of the flu, complete with temperatures and horrible cough, and I
just dropped my bundle and let the world disappear while I just felt miserable for days.
I always thought I'd be better than that, and able to 'soldier on' anyway, but no, apparently
not.  I have a renewed appreciation for my usual state of good health now, and a much
stronger admiration for those who do live with illnesses and chronic pain, and still manage
to function.

I'm on the tail end of it now, so as my old primary school motto said - "Onward and Upward"!
I'm just putting the finishing touches to this month's Premium Online Quilt Magazine now too,
so hopefully that will be published in the next few days as well.

This week's block is a funny one, but does look good in a couple of different quilt top layouts.

I have some hand sewing to do this week too and I thought I'd share these tips...

* Trim the thread on the diagonal for easier threading.

* If your thread just can't find the needle's eye, try threading from the other side. One side of the
eye is usually larger and easier to thread.

* Finally, just remember there are no rules about what you can create through quilting. Experiment,
learn new skills, practice them, and HAVE FUN.

This is no good for my cough, but oh-so-happy for my soul....

Nutella Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

    310ml (1 1/4 cups) milk
    1 1/2 teaspoon cornflour
60g (2oz) dark cooking chocolate, chopped
    75g (1/4 cup) Nutella
    Splash of Frangelico liqueur (optional)
    Whipped cream, to serve
    Chocolate sauce, to serve
    Mini doughnuts, to serve

Method

Step 1

Place 1/4 cup milk in a small saucepan. Slowly whisk in cornflour until smooth and combined.
Gradually whisk in the remaining 1 cup milk. Add chocolate. Cook, stirring, over low heat for 2-3
minutes or until smooth. Bring to the boil. Simmer for 30-60 seconds or until thickened.
Stir in Nutella. Add a splash of Frangelico liqueur, if using, and stir well. Divide among 2 glasses.

Step 2

Top with whipped cream, drizzle with chocolate sauce and serve with doughnut holes or
mini doughnuts

Keep an eye out for this week's Bag Pattern to arrive soon too.

Until Next Week - Happy Quilting!
