“5 Website Mistakes Business Owners are Making” - 2010-08-15 14:37:02-04
*“5 Website Mistakes Business Owners are Making” is a post from: *Internet Business *
Would you like to design a website that really accomplishes it’s purpose?
Just as we learn from other peoples examples we can also learn from the mistakes that other businesses are making. Especially when it’s something so obvious as a website design or content mistake.

Well Designed Web Pages Are Not An Accident

So What are the Key principles that we need to look at when we are looking at websites?
What are the mistakes that others are making?
How can we learn from their mistakes?
I would like to cover  5 mistakes that other businesses are making. I would like for you to have the weapons that you need to totally defeat and disqualify ANY of your competition.
Take a look  at a few of the websites that your competitors have designed. Do you see any mistakes? How can you capitalize on their mistakes?
I can’t stress this enough. Let’s make sure you disqualify the competition with your website design.
Here are the top 5 website mistakes business owners are making:
1.  Lack of a Specific Purpose
The goal of most business owners is to generate leads from their website. They want calls coming in and customers visiting their shop.  If your website isn’t doing this, it’s a waste of time and money.
2.  Invisible on the Search Engines
What good does it do you to have a website that isn’t generating any visitors?
There are a few simple tips that must be followed to make sure your site generates new visitors daily such as having a sitemap, privacy policy and about page for your website. Plugins can also help you with boost your traffic. I’ve written and entire article on SEO plugins which should be very helpful.
3.  No Credibility
If your website looks like it was designed by a 12 year old, that’s the same expectation everyone will have from your business as well.
It should look like it was designed professionally even if it uses a simple design. In addition it should include as many credibility items as possible: how long you’ve been in business, physical location, photos of team members, testimonials, audio, video, etc.
4.  Your Unique Selling Position is Not Obvious
Visitors must be able to instantly judge why our business is different from all the competition.  If they have to spend 10 minutes going around the site clicking on links, you’ve already lost them.  Give it to them immediately.
5.   Poor Navigation
Don’t make them think about what to do, make it obvious. It should be simple for someone who knows zero about your business and only has basic internet skills to find what they’re looking for on your site in no more than 2 clicks.  Three clicks is the absolute most and that should only be for specific articles or content.
I am constantly looking at what other successful websites are doing and simply model after them.
I am also finding that the KISS principle is true- “Keep It Super Simple”. The KISS principle can also be defined as “Keep it Simple Stupid” if you have a hard time applying these principles to designing effective websites.
Effective Website Design
My desire is for you to be effective as possible when it comes to website design. Avoid these simple website design mistakes and you will be way ahead of the competition.
To Real Success with Life Purpose,
Greg
