Blogs
- Your Power List Building Tool
Blog is short for weblog.
A Blog is another type of website providing a more
personal approach. It can serve
as a person’s diary which is shared publicly on the internet.
More than
133 million blogs are already online as of 2008, according to
Technorati with 900,000 new blog posts published every day. Around
77 percent of Internet users read blogs according to Universal
McCann.
Whether you use it for personal
or business purposes, a blog is an effective way to tap into a
wider
audience. As with all websites on the internet, a
blog has
the ability to spread your message to the various parts of the
world, literally within minutes. In fact, a blog can be
indexed by search engines, such as Google, in as little as 10 minutes
or less.
Blogs allow people to easily
write any
post they wish to share with others. Each post, or
entry, is usually shorter when compared to regular
online articles and usually written in a light or humourous
manner. But while
anybody can create and post to blogs and write whatever is on their
mind, being
ethical is still the number one rule of thumb. Rude language
or inappropriate content has no place on the
internet.
If you have decided to start a
blog for your business, first all, make a specific plan.
There are
several factors that you need to consider. These include your
blog
platform, the template, a web designer, domain name and your hosting
company.
Platform –
Currently, there are
numerous blog platforms available. Do a little research about
them to
find out which one suits your needs. There are some sites that offer
bundled services that already include a licensed platform, domain name
and hosting service for your blog.
Web designer
– If you’re still
in the process of learning the technical side of creating blogs, it
would be a good idea to initially get a web designer who can help you
out. Be sure to clearly communicate all your needs to ensure your web
designer can deliver the blog that you specifically want.
Template
–
There are many great
looking templates designed by professionals which you can use free of
charge. For a more customised template, there's usually a fee
involved.
Choose a simple template with a
color theme that matches your company branding and that's pleasing to
the eyes. The template will be the main
background for your posts so choose it carefully.
Domain name
– This will be the
name of your blog included as your web address or URL. For
example, you can use your existing website url and add the word blog at
the end (www.savvywebwomen.com/blog) or
create a dedicated domain name (www.wendymoore.net).
You can base the name of your blog around your name, your business name
or even the keywords for your business niche. Make it as
catchy and short as possible for easy recall.
Hosting company – This is the
company that
will host your blog so it appears live online. Sometimes, a
hosting firm offers other services so shop
around first before picking one that will give you real value for your
money. However, there are also sites where you can easily publish your
blog for f.ree such as Blogspot.com and WordPress.com.
Now that you know the basic things for creating a blog, you can start
working on it. But first, prepare some short posts to introduce
yourself and your blog when you launch it online. Make it short but
engaging, something that will spark the interest of your readers.
Remember that blogs need to have quality content to drive traffic and
be updated regularly. If you don't have time to post regular
blog updates, contact us to discuss how we can
help you to keep your blog updated by using our Blog Posting Service.
So
once you’ve put your blog online, update it regularly such as
twice a
week or once every week to provide fresh information to your readers.
Train your audience to expect something
new each time they
visit your blog, and they will keep coming back.

Question
1 What
has been your biggest challenge in business and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge was starting a new company and getting the name
and brand into the market place. I used my networking and lead
generation skills to get the business out there and found one of the
best and most effective ways was to do joint projects with other
businesses eg: a training company would put on an event and I would
coordinate and facilitate the event management component.
Question
2 If
you had to start your business again from scratch, what would you do
differently?
Make a 48 hour clock … The only thing I would do differently
would be
to market more aggressively rather than rely on word of mouth or
referrals.
Question
3 Who
do you admire and why?
I admire my mum she’s my super hero, at the age of 17 she had
the guts,
strength and determination to leave her family and her home, traverse
the ocean and come to a strange land where she didn’t
understand the
language or the culture, to start a new life with my
dad...I’m glad she
passed those qualities on to me.
Question
4 It
takes a lot of determination and dedication to succeed in business.
What keeps you motivated?
I love seeing things evolve from just an idea into a
reality…In my
industry it’s all about the planning and the detail and
finally the
delivery of the finished product... for me it’s the
satisfaction of a
job well done that keeps me going in for more.
Question
5 What
are your 3 biggest success tips?
- Work to an achievable plan and break it up into
steps so that you realize your business goals.
- Be clear about what you want to achieve for yourself
and your business and get right in there to accomplish it. Obstacles
are just speed humps to your success.
- Possess a “whatever it takes”
attitude… you will win
peoples trust and trust is vital especially in the industry I am in.
