Keywords to Choose to Improve your Google Ranking

Keywords are words or phrases that people use when they look for information using the various internet search engines, such as Google. For this reason, it is essential that you use powerful keywords when writing your article for the internet. By using the right keywords, your write-up has a better chance of ranking well in the results of the various search engines.

So how do you find the best keywords for your article? You may find it a challenge but it is worth the effort.  First off, do some brainstorming around the types of questions your customers and target market ask you.  What are the 3 most common questions you are asked and what keywords stand out.

These common words your target audience and customers use in conversation will also be what they will use when they search for information on your products or services. So make sure to include these words when writing your article. Just don't go overboard -  avoid using too many of these keywords in the body of the article or you may even be penalised by the search engines, as they'll tag you as deliberately trying to manipulate your search ranking.

If you're writing content for a particular business, think about the keyword combinations your customers will use when they look for a certain product or service. For example, if your business is selling jewelry, you can focus your write-ups on the different types of jewelry such as bracelets, necklaces or rings.

To get more concrete results, do your own research first on the keywords you intend to use for your article using the search engines yourself.  For example, if you're writing on "Ways to deal with stress," you can try entering the phrase dealing with stress in Google's search box and the results will show you how many websites are competing against you. Try using different phrases or a combination incorporating more words (known as a "long tail keyword") and see the results.

Some keyword phrases are very competitive so you might like to avoid those or your article or website may get lost in the rush. You can see if there's stiff competition for the keywords you're targeting if you do a search and the page results statistic on Google shows hundreds of thousands or even millions of hits for other relevant sites. It's better to have a mix of keywords - both popular and unusual words for your content.

You can also use your server log files to learn about the keywords used by people. Normally, when a visitor goes to your site after using the search engine, the words they typed are recorded in your server log files.

Other tools, such as Google Analytics, will also reveal this information to you as will many other tools that are f.ree on the internet.  Or you can try some of the paid tools such as the Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery.

After gathering the keywords relevant to your site, narrow down your list to your top three or four keyword strings.  Then use these keywords as your guide when writing articles and content for your website or blog.

Five Minutes with...

Jo HarrisonJo Harrison of Secrets to Soulmate Success

Question 1
What has been your biggest challenge in business and how did you overcome it?

Not trusting myself and not speaking up early on I would just trust what others would say and ignore my intuition. I felt that they knew best. I also got to see that by not speaking up and trusting myself I didn't have to be responsible for any outcome because it was someone else's decision. The downside of that was I didn't get to enjoy victories either! After I had this breakthrough, I got into action immediately and communicated some requests and that took courage to ignore my little voice but what if you're wrong at what do you know? It was like a miracle everything shifted and I was rewarded with immediate results.

Question 2
If you had to start your business again from scratch, what would you do differently?

Create a stronger foundation. We went too far too fast and ended up having to go backwards so we could start moving forward again. I think the old adage of slow and steady wins the race would have worked very well. Having said that, the lessons and growth we have experienced are invaluable and I wouldn't change them for the world. I believe we all choose the perfect path we need for our own unique journey.

Question 3
Who do you admire and why?

I'm going to take the liberty of changing the question! Who inspires me and why? I find all human beings to be extraordinary and inspiring! I admire us all for our courage and commitment. The more I look for these qualities, the more I see them in everyone.

Question 4
It takes a lot of determination and dedication to succeed in business. What keeps you motivated?

"Our why?!"When my husband and I met we created a vision for our relationship. We are both committed to contributing to others and because we have found our soulmate, we want everyone to experience what we have. We also want the freedom to raise our family together and to be free to travel and visit our families. For me too, it is also a knowing that it has already happened so I guess you could call that faith.

Question 5
What are your 3 biggest success tips?

  1. Get a mentor and/or coach. Every successful person has one.
  2. Don't hurry and never give up!
  3. Trust yourself and never give up on what you believe in.
