Wendy's
Week
Here in
Melbourne, we are enjoying the Spring Racing Carnival with the "race
that stops a nation" having been run and won for yet another year.
Hopefully you took some time to relax before the silly season starts...
I had the delightful pleasure of catching up recently with Karen
Driscoll (who makes amazing chocolate) and the Wonderful Web Woman
Janet Beckers.
Always great to spend time connecting with other amazing business
women. How often do you get out there connecting and
networking?

How
to Add a Message to a Facebook Friend Request
I love to connect with people when using social media. One of my
favourite ways to do this is to include a message when I send someone a
friend request. It's a great idea, but I realised there may
be people
that would love to do this but just don't know how.
So here's how you do it. Read
more here...

Question
1 What
has been your biggest challenge in business and how did you overcome it?
Some of the issues I've taken on have been David and Goliath
type
battles, where I was
fighting large, well funded organizations. However by joining forces
with others, going
public and keeping the focus on what was right for the community, we
won.
Question
2 If
you had to start your business again from scratch, what would you do
differently?
My
business started off focused on marketing but ended up focused on
community
advocacy, so I'd skip the first step.
Question
3 Who
do you admire and why?
I'm a great admirer of
Dame
Phyllis Frost, who helped strengthen and improve our
society through her tireless work championing important but often
unpopular causes.
She successfully lobbied for improved treatment of women prisoners,
established
the Keep Australia Beautiful movement, worked for Freedom from Hunger
and raised
millions of dollars for charity. She was passionate, dedicated and
persistent - she
wouldn't give up until she had achieved what she felt was the
right
thing to be done. And
along the way earned the respect of everyone she dealt with.
Question
4 It
takes a lot of determination and dedication to succeed in business.
What keeps you motivated?
The satisfaction of achieving things people thought weren't
possible
and making a
difference to the lives of the people who benefit.
Question
5 What
are your 3 biggest success tips?
- Be respectful.
- Be persistent.
-
Think outside the square.
Tell us
about Michelle...
I work with
community groups, organizations and individuals to improve local
amenities and services and get a better deal for all. I do that by
meeting with and
listening to people and their concerns, taking those issues to the
appropriate
authorities and negotiating for change. For
