Yourself and Your Inbox From Spam
Nobody likes to receive spam and worse still, you don't want to be
accused of
sending spam email to your list. Many of you have surely been
the recipient of spam in your inbox. This
can be really annoying
but take heart because
there are ways to be on the safe side.
As a business person, it is imperative to
avoid spamming your
clients. Period. Anyone who has visited your
website and
shown you the courtesy of sharing their information with you needs to
be respected for placing their trust in you. Do not abuse the
privilege.
Likewise,
meeting someone, exchanging a business card or, worse still, attending
an event and collecting all the cards off a marketing
table and adding them to your database without
permission is
a definite no no. If you do this, you are a spammer.
You
must ask their permission first.
A major way you can
avoid spam is to use an anti-virus software to
protect your computer. For those who do business mainly on the
internet, your computer is your most valuable asset and
therefore, you should prioritise protecting it from viruses.
It can be viruses and Trojans that send spam to you and
your list. Some even scan your hard disk for email
addresses to harvest for spamming purposes.
Next, be cautious of the words you use in the emails you send
out.
This is vital especially if you use email marketing to sell
and promote your products and services to your target audience. The
most important tool you can use to avoid spam is the spam filter of
your email service or internet service provider (ISP). By utilising
this
tool, you can block most spam emails meant for you. To achieve this,
many ISPs
utilise special routers that look inside emails going to your
inbox.
Addresses detected that are on the blacklist of spammers are then
automatically
filtered out.
There are also commonly used words that trigger spam.
You should be
very careful if you send emails to a large database. These
trigger words
include, among numerous others:
There are also phrases that you
have to cautious with when using in
your emails. These are:

and so on.
[Note:
we had to add the words as an image as we were tagged as a spammer! We
wanted to at least get this newsletter to you to tell you what to
avoid!!]
Finally, develop the habit of updating your list on a regular basis and
include an automatic facility in each email that lets people
unsubscribe easily when they choose to.
You can do this automatically through various software programs. If you
have a subscriber, for instance, who has emailed you and would like to
unsubscribe, remove
him or her from the list right away so you won't be accused
of spamming
later on.

Five
Minutes with...
Ana Stankovic
of Winning
Formulas for Success
Question
1 What
has been your biggest challenge in business and how did you overcome it?
It's always challenging to jump ship in the middle of a
career, which
in my case meant moving from IT management to real estate investing.
The first place you look when that happens is to a mentor, and while
there is plenty of "how to" information out there,
none of it prepares
you for the cold slap of reality when buying and selling those first
few properties. So my biggest challenge was pressing forward with not
much more than my self-taught learning curve and a firm belief in my
ability to make it. It's the same challenge anyone must
conquer in
order to succeed.
Question
2 If
you had to start your business again from scratch, what would you do
differently?
Luckily for me, I came from a world in which analysis and preparation
is everything. So I arrived in the real estate world with these
attributes in place, and they've served me well. So the
answer is, I
wouldn't change much if I had the chance to do it all over
again, which
is one of the reasons I now teach others on how to launch their own
business from the same perspective. The intersection of knowledge and
preparation is where you find success, and this is especially true in
real estate.
Question
3 Who
do you admire and why?
I admire anyone who takes the time to look before they leap, then
summons the courage to make the jump in spite of the risks, which
they've mitigated through a process of thorough preparation.
That makes
my list of heroes a bit long, because that's pretty much the
common
thread among all high achievers - they prepare, they believe,
and they
go for it. Richard Branson comes to mind as someone who does all that
with a high level of creativity and passion, which is what I try to
bring to my work, too.
Question
4 It
takes a lot of determination and dedication to succeed in business.
What keeps you motivated?
For me motivation is a combination of things, sort of a sum that
exceeds the parts. First, real estate is a high stakes game, you win
big or you lose big. Those stakes make the process of preparation
meaningful and exciting, and when you do it with confidence
that's what
makes it fun. I also strive to create a win-win with those from whom I
buy property and for those to whom I rent and sell. And now, because
I'm teaching my approach and making my tools available to
others, it's
very motivating to know that I'm touching the lives of other
people in
a positive way. Sure it's about the money - what
business isn't? - but
that alone is a hollow victory, and I'm in this for more than
that.
It's the people that motivate me the most.
Question
5 What
are your 3 biggest success tips?
- Preparation is essential in just about any endeavor.
And in real estate there are so many variables to consider, many of
them out of your control. So you must get your head about what they are
and strive to control what you can in context to what you
can't.
- Secondly, the use of sophisticated analytical tools
that move the decision point from the seat of your pants to the front
of your brain.
- Perhaps most importantly, the will to persevere and
grow in your chosen field. The learning never stops, and those who
endure and succeed are those who always remain a student of their
profession.
