Wendy's Week
January 2012
Can you believe it's mid January already!

Hopefully by now you've dusted off the last of the new year streamers and are back into it for 2012 (or about to be next week).

Here at the Savvy Web Women office the cameras have been rolling! I've been recording lots and lots of how to videos for our DIYSocialMediaforBusiness.com website in preparation for our launch next week.  That's right - we launch next week!

So that means you only have a few days to join us on the Pre Launch list if you want to be part of the insider action when we go live. We've had people join us from right across the globe which is really exciting.

LAST CHANCE - Make Sure You Jump On Our Pre Launch List today

This is your last chance. Do it now. Head on over to DIYSocialMediaforBusiness.com right now and pop your name on our Pre Launch List.  Those on the list will be offered something very special that WILL NOT  be available if you decide to take a look once we launch.  Action takers are rewarded. :o)

Head over there now: www.DIYSocialMediaForBusiness.com

Are you on Google Plus?

Yes, that's right. We have a new social media platform in town and it's huge: 62 million users in just six months. If you don't know your circle from your huddle or spark, I've written a short guide to get you started here.  There's also a bunch of videos on www.DIYSocialMediaForBusiness.com about it to get you started.

So go friend me there too (that's circle me in Google+ speak!). You can do that here .

Don't worry, I'm writing a social media jargon buster article too. That way you can friend, circle, follow, connect and subscribe as much as you like!

With warm regards,

Why Authorship Markup is Now a Key Google Ranking Strategy

Google has begun implementing changes to its algorithm that will affect all business owners with websites and blogs, particularly those relying on online advertising for their revenues.

In the first quarter of last year, Google, the world's leading search engine, moved to focus on websites offering high quality content as a gauge for indexing websites.

Five Minutes with...

Clare Assetta of Vocal Freedom

Question 1

What has been your biggest challenge in business and how did you overcome it?

Making a break for it! Leaving my safe full time employment and diving into unknown waters.

At one stage I had about six different jobs as I tried to make ends meet whilst getting my business up and running. I then realised that it couldn't have been any other way. It's almost impossible to start a business 'part time'. Unless you jump into it whole heartedly, it will never succeed or thrive. If I had tip toed around the edge for much longer, it would never have happened and I would have been very disappointed.

Question 2

If you had to start your business again from scratch, what would you do differently?

Believed in myself and taken the plunge much earlier!

Question 3

Who do you admire and why?

I'm sad to say that I cannot think of any one person right now.... But I know the qualities they have.

Anyone who has the courage to listen to their heart and put their dreams into action! Too many people plug away at a 'day job' that they don't enjoy so they can pay the mortgage and support the kids! But have they ever thought that they have a right to live too? Then they are left saying... "I wish I had..." or "what if..." I feel no remorse for them. We are all in control of our own lives and we all have the power to do exactly what we choose with it. It simply takes guts, determination, love and belief. This is how millionaires are made.

Question 4

If takes a lot of determination and dedication to succeed in business.  What keeps you motivated?

My complete passion and interest in what I do. As a vocalist, I had a rough and heartbreaking career. I didn't know how to use my voice properly and often found myself hoarse and unable to sing at important performances. My reputation was diminishing and so was my confidence. My mission is to make sure no one has to ever go through that again! I consider my students to be so very lucky as they get to learnt the correct way right from the start! I extensively study and consistently train in all aspects of voice production because I absolutely love it.

The thought of having to go back and work as a secondary school teacher! And the freedom of being my own boss and working from home. I really love it, even though it is bloody hard work and you can never be entirely sure where your next dollar is coming from!

Question 5

What are your 3 biggest success tips?

  1. Get it right from the start - I made sure that my corporate branding. website and products were absolutely perfect and in place before I launched my company.
  2. Quality not Quantity. My business is a service. As soon as I had two clients, I knew I was on my way. I treated them like gold, gave them all I had and before too long my business grew. I am now almost at capacity and thinking about employing a new person.
  3. Promote Promote Promote! I try and have as much of a presence on the web as time allows. My Facebook post's are immediately re-posted on my twitter feed. My blogs are posted on both Facebook and Twitter. I update and add new content to my website on a regular basis. I attend as many networking functions as time and money allows. We advertise and become involved as much as possible in local community. We have our students perform at school fetes, we donate vouchers to school and sporting clubs for prizes and we have an A Frame board out the front of our house (which draws in a great deal of business!)
