Five Minutes with...

Kati EzardKati Ezard of Kolourful Kati

Question 1

What has been your biggest challenge in business and how did you overcome it?

My first challenge has been to begin my business... but my greatest challenge has been to have the courage to continue... - it is one that has evolved from intuition, passion, love of latin culture and COLOUR and, following my heart! At last I listen to my heart and trust my intuition - 30 years of corporate careers can tend to strip you of this vital guidance.

Overcome the biggest challenge? My biggest challenges generally stem from communication with the family in Mexico. They don't speak English, Spanish is not my first language, so misunderstandings can be expected. In addition we are not communicating face to face. Given these circumstances, we all do extraordinarily well.

Question 2
If you had to start your business again from scratch, what would you do differently?

Costings - I never costed myself and my time into the equation! I calculated the value of all the other components and forgot to factor my worth!

Question 3

Who do you admire and why?
Richard Branson - he approaches business with an open mind and a sense of fun, he is uncompromising yet fair, he loves change and to challenge patterns, and he is rewarded through not only extraordinary personal success.
But his ability to make a difference, through his contributions and initiatives to many philanthropic organizations.

Question 4

It takes a lot of determination and dedication to succeed in business. What keeps you motivated?

I love that every day is new and different....so for those more challenging days - I keep a list in front of me of why I started this business... to have this experience, be creative and grow, to look after my latin heart and soul and communicate in Spanish, to have flexibility in my life and to do some good. I KOLOURFUL KATI gives me a sense of purpose and in addition, I enjoy seeing delighted/satisfied clients and knowing that with each sale, I am helping to improve the standard of living for the talented family that hand make the beautiful footwear.

Question 5

What are your 3 biggest success tips?
  1. Do the right things for the brand - deliver a high quality product,
  2. Provide excellent customer service and be ethical and true. look after, value and respect my valuable customers and people who support me and the brand,
  3. Be a polyanna, think "glass half full", be innovative and have fun in what you are doing.
