Question
2
If
you had to start your business again from scratch, what would you do
differently?
Like
with having a baby there's never a good time to start a business. If
you're driven by entrepreneurial passion you just need to jump in and
make it happen. I started Women's Network Australia back in 1990 during
the last economic crisis. I took absolutely no notice of what others
were investing their fear into at the time and it proved an absolute
blessing. If you can build a sustainable business that thrives during a
financial famine imagine what is possible during the good times. We're
now in another economic crisis so against the crowd sentiment I'm the
entrepreneurial driver behind yet another new business venture. In my
mind there's no better time, let everyone else cocoon and hide-away in
fear doom and gloom.
Question
3
Who
do you admire and why?
I enjoy being in
the company of confident people, those who are willing to share and
stand up for what they believe in, regardless of being judged or
critized by others. I find these types of people interesting to spend
time with. Because even if I don't agree with their opinion at least
they have one - which in itself is a stimulating experience. I have
always made a habit to looking at the direction the crowds are headed
and if based on fear I just do the opposite.
Question
4
It
takes a lot of determination and dedication to succeed in
business. What keeps you motivated?
Besides the fact
that I enjoy my lifestyle ultimately it is not what business success is
about. People often ask me how after nearly two decades my eyes still
light up with excitement when talking about Women's Network Australia.
You know for most people Friday is their favoured day of the week - but
for me it's Monday, because that heralds a new working week and the
opportunity to make some small difference in the lives of other women
in business. And if you don't think that little things can make a
difference try going to sleep with a mosquito in your bedroom.
Question
5
What
are your 3 biggest success tips?
- Always take complete responsibility for the financial
side of your business and do not pass the buck. Pay your own accounts
and if you don't know or understand something make it your business to
educate yourself and find out the answers. There is no room for
ignorance or acting like a victim.
- Do what you do well and get in the professionals to
cover off on the rest. Avoid the DIY trap it's for house renovations,
not for business success. Find the money to engage the services of
experts to help guide and grow your business.
- There's lots of great business ideas sitting on
shelves that'll never see the light of day. Make it your business to
get comfortable with the fact that concepts and products only represent
20% of what a business is about, it's the other 80% being the marketing
and sales that will make or break a business. Unless you understand
this concept and are prepared to take it on board don't bother starting
a business.
