Office paper is separated and shredded. A trip to my local Storables helps with storage and the remainder is designated for recycling and donations. Donate In my downtown Seattle condo I enjoy the clarity after I 'edit' my stuff over the holidays. So I was off to Goodwill with a collection of donations just before the New Years began. Target Now I can focus on a Wish Book for my 2012 projects. I clip, file, tab and date my ideas and research. What do you have percolating? I have new carpet and some appliances on my list. With Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, New Year's and the Super Bowl right around the corner, you might consider basic improvements that make your holiday entertaining memorable events for your family and friends. Faith's 5 Favorite Improvements for Holiday Occasions A standard 30 range can be limited with a larger menu. A portable induction burner supplements your standard range and is readily available. I like this one from Fagor. Pull out your Crock Pot or slow cooker. From casseroles to roasts, these versatile appliances are work horses. I used this one from All-Clad for T-Day. Large crowds = lots of ice. Consider a portable ice maker and save space in your freezer. Major box stores have them readily available. Small, portable wine and beverage fridges or installed dual-zone models will serve the home entertainer in good stead. I love Sub Zero for the selection. Ultimate cool new thing for your island and kitchen, the Cool Drawer from Fisher Paykel. A refrigerator, freezer and wine cooling drawer all in one. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to start a new tradition, and here are a few of my favorites... Faith's Favorite Thanksgiving Traditions Adopt a family through a local church - assemble a box or basket of food for the family and deliver it together. Select a favorite charity that will receive a donation from your gathering each year. Many great charities need toys and clothes for children, or even basic necessities like toothpaste and soap. Decide on an amount you will donate together, and either shop together to select the items and then deliver them, or send a check on behalf of your family and friends. Eastside Baby Corner Volunteer at a homeless shelter to serve food as a family to those who are less fortunate. Flexible Family Room Design It's football season, and for many men, this is the time to relax, reconnect with their male friends and enjoy their favorite team on a large screen TV. It's important to create a space for casual entertaining, and yet, if you care about the appearance of your space when the TV isn't the center of attention, you do have options. Your family room doesn't have to look like a man cave. It can be elegant and yet comfortable. Here's one of my favorite family rooms that incorporates good design elements. You may prefer a space that doesn't focus on the black screen when the TV isn't on, and this is one option for concealing it when it is not in use. Morgan Media Cabinet~Hickory Chair If you're interested in creating a completely hidden TV and the supporting equipment, the lift system like the one in the Morgan cabinet is ideal. It uses a hydraulic hinge mechanism that raises and lowers a flat screen by remote control.Wow your guests with a beautiful piece of furniture that is specifically designed for your Audio Visual equipment and doesn't look like everyone else's cabinet. And, if you're a loving spouse, you can surprise your husband with this special gift! Another cabinet from Hickory Chair that is beautiful as well as functional with media storage behind the doors, the Blackland Cabinet. If you want to create an ultimate 'watering hole', think about adding a multi-functional snack and drink center. Refrigerator drawers for snacks, soft drinks, water and beer plus a wine cabinet showcasing your favorite wines are readily visible and built into the cabinetry. Since the holidays will be here before you know it, think about how you'll be using your family room and how you'd like to make your guests feel welcome by adding color, function and texture to one of the most used spaces in your home.
