Color Splash Conversation with David Bromstad Part I
Seattle Design Center welcomes David on Saturday, April 24th for Eye on Design - 2010. I am excited to share the first round of my Q & A with David. Via David's publicist I submitted 10 questions to David. I hope his answers offer a glimpse into the personality of the 'star' of Color Splash for his fans, design students, and HGTV followers.
My blog and newsletter readers have a chance to win 1 of 5 tickets that I will give away. The value is $20 and comes with the opportunity to hear David's presentation, ask him questions and tour showrooms at the Design Center. All tickets will be awarded by April 17th. Now for some Q & A.
Question: You juggle many tasks and time constraints. What do you do to establish focus? Do you delegate to a team? What tasks are always yours?
David: Working out really helps me focus and gives me time to think. I do have a team. My duties, every time, are the overall design of every space, the color palate, artwork and furniture choices... basically, the whole design.
Question: Young designers and students look to you and aspire to achieve celebrity status. It looks so 'easy' but what is the truth? What words of advice can you share, especially in the current economy and job market?
David: Although it may look glamorous, it's a lot of work but the rewards are delicious! Never give up, don't change professions, follow your passion. If you love what you do, success will come. You need to pay your dues.
Question: Do you have a signature? What is a recurring thread in your design work?
David: I would have to say my signature is color! I love color and my artwork portrays this.
Be sure to share my newsletter with friends and family so they too have a chance to win a ticket.
At this event, David will paint two canvases live, which will be donated to support Rise n' Shine, a local organization providing support programs for children and teens affected by HIV and AIDS.
