In this Expert Advice post, I talk about why it is important to take time off for personal reflection, re-connection with family and friends, relaxation for physical and mental health, and rejuvenation for the challenges ahead. “Rest when you’re weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit.
Then get back to work.” Ralph Marston (American Writer) Check out this post for other great quotes about rest!

The posts for August will help you get into the mindset of moving your career forward by deciding to go back to school -- and then advice for what to do once you get into
school! My Quick Tip of the Month Practice Mindfulness! Whatever this season brings in your part of the world, my advice is to
practice being Mindful. I know that this is a trendy thing to say in 2017 -- but being "in the moment" should be more than just a saying; it really is a lifestyle adjustment. And I'm not talking about having to be all "woo-woo" or have to have an out-of-body experience. Mindfulness is easily learned and takes only minutes a day. You can be mindful while walking, listening, exercising, by observing what's around you, meditating, and in getting ready for
sleep. Read my post on Mindfulness for other suggestions.
Many of us go about each day by rote or just ticking off our daily checklists of what has to be done. We don't
necessarily stop to think about what we are doing, who we are spending time with, why we are doing something, or how what we are doing will affect our lives or others.
Being mindful, or deliberate in your daily life will bring benefits. Living in the moment means being fully present, observant, and "awake" to your current situation. When you really pay attention to what's going
on around you, you'll find that you remember the sights, sounds, smells, and your thoughts more than if you are just racing through life. Practicing mindfulness has been shown to improve memory, boost creativity, and strengthen neural pathways in our brains.
So --- Be mindful of the world around you - not just when you are on vacation -- but in your everyday life. Think about what you are seeing, hearing, smelling,
feeling, thinking. Be thankful for your experiences - they make you stronger.
Be mindful of any time you spend with your family or friends to make memories that "stick," that is, memories you will remember in the future. Life is short. Savor the moments you have together; you'll be glad you
did.
Be mindful of the time you spend learning on your own or in class (online or face-to-face) so that you can think about the information and lessons you are learning and not just go through the motions of reading an article or attending class. Your future patients will thank
you. I appreciate your time, . My purpose is to help you be the best nurse you can be - so I strive to provide you with valuable content every
week.
I'm looking forward to your comments and suggestions and how I can help you be successful. Strive for Excellence!
