A

s I looked over the last few runway shows of this last month, I couldn't help but imagine what it might feel like to send all of your hard work down the catwalk for everyone to see. All of the energy, hours and perspiration and then the anticipation of how essentially this piece of you will be received is left in the hands of the observers, or is it?

So often the ability to appreciate and congratulate ourselves for a job well done, the best we knew how to create at the time, is not rightfully savored because we are consumed with how others will receive it.  While to some extent, reviews do matter, I would argue that we must not be at the complete whim of what others' critiques are.

Imagine a world without Gandhi, after all, he suffered greatly from many who disapproved of his ability to inspire a crowd and suffered the consequences. Or Winston Churchill, who struggled in school despite his bests efforts and never won a public election until he was voted Prime Minister at the age of 62.

What we can learn is that critics don't always get it right.  The only thing we have control over is that we give 100% of ourselves, our abilities and our time, when doing any given job, project or performance. While the rest in some ways is left up to the circumstances, I would argue that our attitude and how we handle what follows also determines where we will land in the future.  I couldn't help but think of this fact as I was writing this week's Why Not . . . Be An Optimist? Part Deux, because our world, our destiny, truly is in our very own hands.  Everything may not go the way we had planned, exactly as planned, but we can find the life, the dream we crave, if we garner our pride and keep striving forward no matter what others may say.

I have to admit, however, that I was a little nervous of the reviews this week when I shared with you, my readers, an interview that I had been kindly asked to do by entrepreneur, inspiration in her own right, Kimberly Wilson because so much of who I am is shared on my blog and in this newsletter.  The interview went live this week, and I want to take the time to say thank you to all of you who stopped by to say something after listening to it.  I am also grateful for the new readers who found me due to this interview.  And to those who are new reader of The Simply Luxurious Life, welcome to its weekly newsletter. I do hope you find a bit of inspiration each week that adds something worthwhile - whether it be a bit more hope, a tinge of a smile or a new idea you'd like to try. If you haven't had an opportunity and would like to listen to the interview where I introduce my inspiration for The Simply Luxurious Life and how I try to constantly live by this premise, click on the image of Tranquility du Jour below.

In today's newsletter, you'll find a handful of Fall 2011 fashions from the runways of Paris and one from Milan. And for those chefs out there, take a look at Tuesday's Rooms of Inspiration where I share my list of must have items for The Cook's Kitchen. And I share one of my favorite recipes found on Darjeeling Dreams blog - a decadent Lemon Tart - honestly, melt in your mouth lemoniness that will impress.  Also, you know you're an A-type personality and aficionado of organization when one of the best deliveries all year is a new planner - yes, I am in love with organizing - view what arrived this week under Things I Love . . .

I hope your week has gone well and you are looking forward to slowing down a bit or at least enjoying the company of those you crave.  Enjoy the newsletter and until next week, I'll see you on the blog.

Style Suggestion

If you're like me, when spring begins to show signs of its arrival, I get anxious for picking out my annuals at local nurseries, perusing all of the newly delivered flowers, shrubs and hanging plants. So, why not look stylish, but appropriate while spending the weekend at your local plant and garden stores? Here's an idea.
