D

uring this past week my mother and I had the opportunity to learn how to make lavender wreaths on a beautiful lavender farm out in the nearby country. It was a pristine, yet mild summer day, perfect for sitting outside under a vast umbrella as we worked away on our lavender bundles with baskets of more freshly cut pieces patiently awaited to be included.

After passing the time catching up, commenting on the views of the locale and sipping lavender infused lemonade, four hours later, we each had a wreath. Four hours later. I had no idea it would take this long, but the result was impressive and well worth the time it required.

There were many lessons to be reminded of as I looked at my watch starving for what would be a late lunch but having thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  The most obvious being, nothing worth appreciating takes little effort, and more importantly, adapting to something new takes time, determination and the willingness to stick with it even when you're not exactly sure you're doing it correctly. After all, throwing our hands up in uncertainty stops the process of whatever we are doing dead in its tracks, but choosing to push forward even when we're not exactly sure how it's all going to turn out could manifest something we never thought we could achieve.

So many of us want to know how anything we choose to do will turn out (I include myself in this category, I must admit) because we are given the illusion, due to all of the information that is available, that there is no reason for us not to know.  And while I would agree, we are given many more resources than other generations have ever had, we must always understand that we will never know for certain anything unless we try it for ourselves and stick to it until we either finish or reach the goal we had intended.

In this week's newsletter, I am thrilled to say that it has been the best week ever in the history of The Simply Luxurious Life regarding a welcoming of new readers, subscribers and new websites that have heard the word from so many of you and who knows where else. So with that said, thank you so much for sharing your enjoyment of the blog and newsletter with those you feel will appreciate it as well.  With the popularity of Kate Middleton's style sense being the topic of conversation, this week's most popular post was a detailed recap of all of her style choices while on her 11 day tour of North American with Prince William (Click here to read Princess Catherine Middleton's Touring Style).

Another giveaway was announced this week, as a lucky reader will win a dress of their choice from Karina Dresses, based in Brooklyn.  Be sure to enter by Saturday, July 16th at midnight pst - click here to enter and learn more - and stop by this Sunday to see if you are the lucky winner.

Another post of interest was the announcement that Sarah Jessica Parker is the cover girl of August's issue of  Anna Wintour's Vogue. As she is promoting her upcoming film (I Don't Know How She Does It), SJP poses with her husband, eight-year-old son and two young girls in the photo shoot. So many other posts this week garnered positive responses from ideas for a simple beauty routine that will yield glowing results, a simple plan to help you create the simply luxurious life of your dreams and a book that I couldn't wait to share with you.

One last thing I want to mention is a thank you to Oregon Women's Report for including a post from my archives that is a reader favorite - Tips for a Luxurious Work Day. While so many of us are enjoying a summer vacation, more of us still must go to work, so why not make each day a pleasant and productive one? This post reveals a few ways to do just that.

Whatever you have planned for the weekend, my wish is that it is exactly what you want and need so that when Sunday arrives you are content to start the week on the right foot. Have a lovely weekend and until next week, I'll see you on the blog.

-Shannon

For many of us, work doesn't stop when summer arrives and so in order to remain stylish, cool and comfortable, wear a pencil skirt, some fabulous sandals and a classic white top to present yourself as the professional pulled together woman that you are.
